Alice's P.O.V

April 10, 1970

Paul and I officially made our move to our farm in Scotland. While we made our move to Scotland, Linda and Joseph moved to their farm in Tucson. They write us at least once a week and we write them back. I was home alone with the kids, Martha and Helen as Paul made a trip to London for a press conference. I decided to read the letter Linda and Joseph sent us.

Dear Alice, Paul, Helen, Ethel, Mary and Martha

We're really enjoying life in Tucson. The kids really love the ranch. How's life on the farm? We hope it's going great. We found out the genders of our babies. It turns out we're going to be having twins. One boy and one girl. Please write to us as soon as you can. Tell Ethel and Mary that we said we love them and miss them.

Sincerely Linda, Joseph, Heather, Alex and Josie

I smiled at the letter. I was so happy that they were having twins. Helen came into the room.

"What are you reading?" Helen asked

"It's a letter from Linda and Joseph. Turns out they're having twins" I said

"Twins? That's great" Helen said.

"Helen, do you know when Paul's coming back?" I asked

"I don't. He'll be back soon. I know you two don't like being away from each other for so long" Helen said

I was sleeping in our bed with an empty presence beside me. It didn't feel right when Paul wasn't beside me. I heard the door open which woke me up. I got out of bed and made my way to the front door. Paul was standing there. He must have decided to come back early.

"Paul?" I said. He looked up at me. He had red, puffy eyes.

"Honey, what's wrong?" I asked

"The Beatles are over" Paul said

~three days later~

It had been three days since The Beatles break up. Paul was really upset about it. He hasn't showered, he hasn't shaved and he's been drinking whisky for the past three days. I was really worried about him. I sat on a fence as I watched Ethel and Mary play. Martha sat by my feet and every now and then, I would pet her. Helen sat beside me on the fence.

"It's been three days Helen. Paul hasn't been himself for three days and now I'm really worried" I said. Helen reached over to grab my hand.

"Maybe you should go talk to him" Helen said. I nodded and then jumped off the fence. I went into the house to find Paul. He was sitting at the couch, holding another bottle of whisky.

"Paul?" I said

"Leave me alone" Paul said

"Come on Paul. You need to get out and do something. Come play with the girls" I said

"Please just leave me alone" Paul said.

"Please, the girls miss their father and I-" I said

"JUST LEAVE ME ALONE ALRIGHT!NOTHING REALLY MATTERS ANYMORE!" Paul screamed at me. I backed away in fear. Paul has never screamed at me like that.

"Nothing really matters? I don't matter? The kids don't matter?" I said

"Love, I didn't-" Paul said. Before he could even finish, I stormed out of the house. When I walked back over to the girls, I picked up Mary and held out my hand for Ethel.

"Mommy, where are we going?" Ethel asked

"Just for a drive. Helen, are you coming?" I asked

"Sure" Helen said

"Martha, come with us. We're going for a drive" I said. Martha began following us to the car.

I drove us to an empty field. We sat on the top of the hill, watching some deer prance. I laid down on my back. I had Mary laid beside me so that my arm was tucked underneath her. I explained what happened to Helen.

"So Paul just screamed at you like that?" Helen asked

"Yeah. He scared me to death" I said. Ethel straddled my stomach, placing her legs on either side of me.

"Do you and daddy still love each other?" Ethel asked

"Of coarse we do, sweetheart. Daddy is just going through a rough time right now" I said

When we got back, the sun was already starting to set. Helen decided that she would take both of the girls to bed. I decided to go find Paul. He was sitting in the same spot from when I left earlier. I walked in front of him and crouched down.

"Paul?" I said. He looked up at me and he smiled for the first time in three days.

"I thought you left me for good" Paul said. I grabbed his hands.

"I'm never leaving you Paul" I said

"So you still love me even though I'm not a Beatle anymore?" Paul asked

"I never loved you because you were a Beatle. I fell in love with who you are as a person" I said.

"I'm sorry I said nothing matters to me anymore. You and the kids are the ones that matter most to me" Paul said

"I know you didn't mean it. You don't know how much you matter to me Paul" I said. I laid my head down on his lap while still looking up at him.

"And I know music still matters to you" I said

"I don't see the point in making music without John. Without him, my music is nothing" Paul said

"That's not true. You're an amazing musician and songwriter. You don't need John. You're amazing on your own" I said

"If I were to continue making music, I'd want you to do it with me" Paul said

"I'll be by your side every step of the way" I said.

"We can sing together. You've got a lovely voice and I don't want it to go to waste" Paul said, pulling me up onto his lap.

"If you really want me to, I'll sing with you" I said. Paul pulled me into our first kiss in three days.

"Thanks for not giving up on me, love" Paul said

"I believe you can be as successful without the Beatles as you we were when you were with them" I said

"We can be successful together. As a husband and wife duo" Paul said

"That sounds perfect. Maybe you could start your own band soon" I said

"Soon but you're the only music partner I need right now" Paul said, nuzzling his head against my neck.
