Alice's P.O.V
December 21, 1974
It had been my second day in the hospital. When Paul called Linda last night, she said she would fly out as soon as she can. That's where Paul was, at the airport picking Linda up. For now, I had Laura to keep me company.
"Do you know how much I hate hospitals sis?" I asked
"Almost as much as I hate Brussels sprouts?" Laura said.
"Now you made me hungry" I said.
"Lucky for you, I brought you some lunch. I know how much you hate hospital food" Laura said. She reached into her bag and pulled out a container of pasta along with a fork.
"Laura, do you know how much I love you?" I said.
"You better not just be saying that because I have food" Laura said, giving me the pasta.
"I love you because you're my sister, but you having food for me is a bonus" I said. I was just about to take a bite, when Laura asked a question.
"Can I feed you?" I looked at her, furrowing my eyebrows at her.
"You want to feed me?" Laura nodded with a smile. "You do realize I am thirty one, right?"
"Come on! You let dad feed you this morning" Laura said
"That was medicine" I said
"Pleeeaaassse" Laura whined.
"Fine! You can feed me" I said. I handed her the food. She brought the pasta up to my mouth, and I ate it. I moaned at the taste.
"My god Laura, this is exquisite"
"Thank you. I put a little something in the sauce" she said. She continued to feed me until Paul and Linda entered the room.
"What's going on in here?" Paul asked.
"Oh, Laura had some lunch for me and she offered to feed it to me" I said
"That's what an older sister does for her younger sister" Laura said, placing the pasta on the table.
"I'm going to get something to drink" she said before leaving the room. Both Paul and Linda walked over to me. They stood on either side of the bed. Paul started stroking my hair while Linda held onto my hand.
"How are you feeling Alice?" Linda asked
"Not as bad as I was yesterday" I said.
"Do you know how much longer you're going to be in the hospital?" Paul asked
"Dad said probably just one more day and then I can go home, but he warned to me to rest lots and drink plenty of fluids" I said
"Good. The girls are worried about you" Paul said
"You tell them that mommy is fine. Are they with Mabel again?"
"They are"
"Linda, was it just you who flew out or did Joseph and the kids fly out as well?"
"It was just me" Linda said.
"Well thanks for flying out here" I said. Linda smiled and squeezed my hand. When Laura came back, dad was with her.
"Alice, I have some good news for you" he said
"What is it?" I asked.
"You're pneumonia is clearing up quicker than I thought it would. You can go home today" dad said
"Great. It must be the medicine" I said
"I still want you to take it, even if I have to come over and force feed it to you" dad said
"Ugh, how much longer do I need to take that stuff?" I asked
"Let's give it three days. Then I want you to come and see me and I'll make sure the pneumonia is gone" dad said
"Alright daddy" I said
"Good. Paul, make sure she takes this medicine. Once when she gets up and once before she goes to bed"dad said, handing him the bottle.
"I'll make sure she takes it" Paul said.
"Thank you. I expect you back here in three days pumpkin" dad said before leaving the room.
"I can finally go home. Get me out of this place" I said, standing up.
"Love, aren't you forgetting something?" Paul said. I looked down at my attire. I was still wearing a hospital gown.
"Ah, I should probably get changed first" I said.

I was happy to finally be out of that hospital. I couldn't wait to see my girls. I know they were worried sick about me. When we entered the house, Mabel was sitting in the living room with the girls.
"Mommy's home!" Ethel said. She ran over to me and engulfed me in a hug.
"I was scared you weren't coming home mommy" Ethel said.
"Sweetie, you know I wouldn't leave you girls. I was just in the hospital" I said.
"Did Robert let you leave early?" Mabel asked, walking over to me.
"Yes. He said my pneumonia is clearing up quicker than expected. He said to get plenty of rest and drink lots" I said
"I'm just glad you're feeling alright" Mabel said
"Thanks mom. I think I'm going to go lay down. I'm feeling a bit dizzy. Paul, will you come tuck me in?" I said.
"Of coarse I will, love" Paul said. We made our way to the bedroom.

Paul had made sure that I was tucked tightly under the covers.
"If you need anything just let me know, alright? I'm going to take care of you until you're all better" Paul said.
"Actually, can you lay down with me and cuddle?" I asked. He got into bed with me, and got used the covers. I turned to my side and Paul laid behind me. When his arms wrapped around my stomach, it made me feel so protected.
"I missed you so much last night" Paul said.
"You could have stayed at the hospital with me y'know" I said
"I know, but I needed to be with the girls as well. Last night when I got home, Ethel kept asking where you were. She was so upset last night that I made her sleep with me" Paul said
"How were Mary and Stella last night?" I asked
"They missed you, but Ethel definitely missed you the most" Paul said
"More than you?" I asked
"Well, maybe I was the one who missed you the most" Paul said
"I'm here now Paulie. I'm here now"
