Alice's P.O.V
February 14, 1971
We moved back to the farm at the beginning of February. Dad is back on his feet again and it's like he was never hit by a car in the first place. Linda and Joseph went back to Tucson. I haven't heard from John in a bit but I have heard from Yoko. She called the day just before Paul and I moved back to the farm.
The phone was ringing. Since I was the only one near the phone at the moment, it was up to me to answer it.
"Hello?" I said
"Hi Alice!" Yoko said
"Hey Yoko. What's going on?" I asked
"John and I and are just planning out some things when we move to New York in August" Yoko said
"That's nice. I hope you two enjoy it there when you move" I said
"Thanks. I have a favour to ask of you" Yoko asked
"What is it?" I said
"Well, it's more of a favour for John because he was the one asking" Yoko asked. I bit the inside of my cheek. What did John want?
"What does he want?" I asked
"Well, since you two are planning to move back to the farm," I knew I shouldn't have told Yoko about it. Now John probably wants the address. "he wants to know the address so he can send you letters"
"Why not Paul? I mean they're best friends, or at least were" I said
"I don't know. I tried telling him that but he only wants to send you mail" Yoko said. I let out a sigh, regretting my next decision.
"Fine" I said
I haven't gotten one thing of mail from John yet. I really hoped he changed his mind about sending me stuff. What if he did send something and Paul found it? He'd be heartbroken.
I let my mind wander to John and Yoko. They clearly love each other but maybe the marriage isn't what they thought it would be. Did Yoko know about John's feelings for me? I'm sure she didn't. Otherwise she wouldn't have called and got the address for John. Why does everyone have to fall in love with me? I mean there was Harry, Joseph, Ethan, and even Linda. Now it's John, Paul's best friend. Whose next, George and Ringo?
"Love, what are you doing out here so early in the morning" I heard Paul's voice. I looked up at him and saw him rubbing his eyes.
"Trying to keep my mind from wandering" I said, letting out a sigh.
"Maybe you should try fixing a hole" he said with a laugh, sitting next to me.
"Ha ha. You're so funny" I said, wrapping my arms around him and leaning into him. He returned the embrace and kissed my head.
"For you, I try to be. What's your mind wandering about?" Paul said.
"Oh, nothing that you should be concerned with" I said. There was no way I was telling him about John.
"Are you sure? When you say I shouldn't be concerned about it, I'll get concerned" Paul said
"I'm fine Paul" I said
"You promise?" Paul asked
"I promise" I said

Paul and I were making lunch in the kitchen. Mary was sitting in her chair so Paul and I could keep an eye on her as Helen and Ethel were giving each other make overs. It was Ethel's idea. She said and I quote "I'm seven and old enough for it" As I was chopping carrots, I could see Paul out of the corner of my eye, staring at me intently.
"Paul, why are you staring at me like that?" I asked
"You get this very concentrated look on your face and it's amusing to watch" Paul said. I smirked and looked up at him.
"Oh yeah? Well you get this very sexy look when you're fu-" I was cut off by Ethel shouting for me.
"Mommy!" She ran into the kitchen with her make up done.
"Look at you! You look beautiful!" I said
"Do you like it daddy?" Ethel asked
"I like it, but you're more beautiful without it, just like your mother" Paul said, winking at me. Just then, Helen walked into the kitchen with her make up all smudged. I had to my best to contain my laughter.
"I did Helen's make up" Ethel said
"You did a good job" I said, stifling a laugh. I didn't want to hurt Ethel's feelings by laughing at the work she did, and of coarse I didn't want to hurt Helen's feelings. I could hear Paul behind me trying to contain his laughter as well.
"Yay!" Ethel said.
"You want to go clean up the mess?" Helen asked Ethel. Ethel nodded and ran out of the kitchen. When she left, that's when Paul and I broke out in laughter. Helen looked at us as if we were crazy.
"What?" she asked
"So, tell me, how many of you can fit in one car at a time?" I said through fits of laughter. Helen raised an eyebrow and put her hand on her hip.
"Excuse me?" she said
"Love, it's not that funny" Paul tried to calm himself, but he broke out in laughter again. Helen just shook her head at us.
"You two are crazy. No wonder you two are perfect for each other" Helen said, leaving the kitchen. Paul and I laughed for another minute before catching our breaths again.
"Now that that's over with," he said, wrapping an arm around my waist and pulling me close to him "I believe you were saying something about me"
"Oh yeah, I was" I said. Before we had a chance to continue, we heard the mail slot. It wasn't often we got mail. The only people who write us is Linda and Joseph once every month.
"Mommy!" I heard Ethel call for me.
"I'll get mail" Paul said. I nodded. He quickly kissed me before we went our separate ways. When I got to Ethel's room, I saw her cleaning up the last of the make up.
"What is it sweetie?" I asked
"I thought I lost something but I found it" Ethel said. I just nodded and went to join Paul.
"Love, please tell me why John is writing you?" Paul asked, holding up the letter from John.
