**Christmas**
Katniss's POV;
I wake up before Peeta does, and decide to surprise him with breakfast. Now I'll admit, in not the best cook, but I can make some pretty good pancakes. And that's what I do, I make pancakes and thick bacon.
I pour two glasses of orange juice and then set them on the table. I make the table look nice with a mug of hot chocolate for each of is too.
I walk upstairs to a sleeping Peeta and he turns peacefully. "Peeta sweetheart." I whisper rubbing his cheek.
"Yeah yeah." He barely mumbles before scooting over and making room for me. Awh, he thinks he's taking up the whole bed. I hold in a giggle and cuddle into the bed with him happily. I sigh in pleasure and kiss under his chin. He groans and then I kiss him again but on the lips this time.
"Merry Christmas." I smile. He sill doesn't move. "Peeta." I persist. "Come on, wake up. I made breakfast."
He yawns and pulls me closer. I kiss him again hard and close my eyes happily. My mind turns to thinking about his Christmas gift. I went to a special doctor in the district and got my sonogram; which is a picture of my baby. I boxed it and wrapped it in festive paper with someone Peeta calls Santa on it.
I placed it under the tree that I cut down last week. Peeta hasn't placed anything there yet, but trust me I don't mind. I'm in love with him and he's mine so that's all I need.
"Good morning sweetheart." He finally says after we break from the kiss. "Did I hear you say breakfast?" He asks cheerfully.
"Yes Mr. Mellark. I actually did, and if you don't hurry it'll get cold."
"Wouldn't wanna miss this." He smiles and stands from the bed. Buttercup cries from the corner where his bed is and I bend down to pet him.
"Good morning bud." He cries before laying back down and falling fast asleep.
Peeta seemed to like the breakfast. And if he didn't, he's a great actor. Because I thought it was terrible, chewy and hard. As he washed the breakfast dishes, I cleaned the living room and wrapped the rest of the presents for everyone else. I look into a small ornament Peeta had gotten me, of a little duck.
I'm sitting on the ground with my face in my hands tape and supplies at my feet as I try and forget. I want prim back. I shakily pick up the pair of scissors and begin to cut a piece of paper. I miss Finnick. The cut isn't straight. Cinna. I throw the scissors at the walk as hard as I can. Rue. Boggs.
"NO! NO NO NO! NOT TODAY!" I let myself scream as I thrash and kick on the floor.
Peeta's here in seconds. "Shh, it's okay Katniss your okay."
"I MISS THEM." I sob into his warm chest.
"I know. I know." My eyes wander to the ornament that caused my fit.
"Take it down." I order. "I don't ever want to see it again." My voice is a bit harsh but I mean it. It will just continue to bring back memories.
"Yes. I will. After I know your okay."
"I'm fine." I reply coldly. "Just a quick one this time." I stand and wipe my tears. He hastily takes the ornament down and hides it in a box up in the attic. Right along side my mockingjay bow and suit. Two things I never ever want to see again; no not that I don't ant to see them. I don't want to have to use them ever again. I never want to have to fight for my life again.
I let out a tiny sharp frustrated scream and remind myself that today is a day to be happy and excited. The squad is still coming over, we are still hosting a dinner. We will still have to act as if everything is okay. I will still tell Peeta I am two months pregnant.
After I place the rest of the presents under the tree, I light the fireplace and put away the dishes Peeta washed. "Do you need any help cooking?" I ask him.
"Oh no Katniss, I'm fine. Go relax."
"Are you sure? You shouldn't have to cook everything yourself." I frown putting the last plate away.
"It's okay. I like to cook. All that's left to do is bake the bread."
"Well teach me" I say as if it's obvious.
"Teach you?" He repeats.
"Yeah, maybe I'll make you bread next time." I tease him.
"I guess I could teach you, it's an old secret though. You have to be in the family." He whispers holding a finger to his lip.
"I'm hurt Peeta! You don't think of me as family!" I pretend to me hurt.
"Of course I do!" He try's to fix what he's just said.
"I'm just kidding, teach me to make bread." I exclaim before hopping onto the counter.
"Well, the first thing is that it isn't very clean to put your butt where we'll be putting raw dough in a couple minuets..." I blush and jump from the counter. "Get a stool." He nods towards the bar in the middle of the kitchen.
I sit on a wooden stool as he tells me what to are into the dough. I'm not listening though, just waiting for the perfect time. When he's not watching, I dig my fingers into the flour container and when he turns around I throw it at him. "What the- Katniss!" I hide my hand behind my back and stick my tongue out.
"Is it snowing Peeta?"
"Your gonna get it!" He warns taking two eggs into his hands. I back myself into a corner.
"Now Peeta, let's not do anything harsh." I hold my hands up in defeat. He steps closer with a huge grin on his face. My hair is down and I attempt to pull it into a pony tail but he's on me. He cracks the eggs onto my head and smears them into my hair. They drip onto my face and I pull him to me and kiss him hard.
It's a slimy kiss, like when he died in the arena. But he stays there holding my hands above my head as if to stay in control. We kiss for so long we don't hear the door open and close.
"Well I never!" We hear a Capitol accent sing. "What in the world!?" Effie yells.
We break and both laugh. "Merry Christmass Effie!" We sing before hugging her tight.
