Her words continue to ring through my mind as I drive into the Capitol. She comes home today. But the venom has been working, I saw her in the middle of her second week. I know she'll say it again. Those words I never wanted to hear from someone, especially her.

I hate you Peeta Mellark.

Does she even love me? Does she remember what she said last time I saw her?

Flashback.

"Hi." I smile standing back a few steps.

"Hi." She blushes and walks towards me hugging my torso. I hesitate to hug her back but finally do, and give her head a quick pec.

"How do you feel?" I whisper.

"Like shit." She mutters. She pulls back from our hug as her eyes turn black. "Who are you?"

"I'm Peeta, your fiancée." I say. "Katniss please, I'm right here. None of that is real, I promise you. It's not real!" I shout holding her face.

"Get off!" She shrieks before punching my jaw hard. I refuse to hit her, she's the love of my life. "Leave me alone!" She chants pushing me towards the couch. My body hits it and she finds a plastic dinner knife. She raises it above her head to stab me, but I do the only thing I can think of. Pull her towards me and kiss her straight on the mouth. Her eyes turn back to the beautiful seam gray color I learned to love. "I-I'm sorry Peeta. I didn't hurt you did I?" She asks frantically standing from my legs.

"No, I'm fine. I'm going to go now." I say quickly.

"Peeta!" She shrieks. "Just tell me you love me." She pleads looking into my eyes.

And then I left. Without another damn word. What kind of man does that make me? One that leaves as soon as we have problems?

Flashback Over.

I tap my foot as I drive. A man waves me towards the hospital wing where I assume she's getting help at. If she not there, I'll call her mother and have her check her to make sure everything is okay. But I know it won't be okay. Nothing can ever go our way.

A Capitol man ushers me faster and I pull into valet parking. "Would you like me to park it Mr. Mellark?" She young man asks.

"No. I'm fine." I nod and press a few gold coins into his palm.

"Thank you." He smiles pocketing the coins quickly. I rush inside and find the front desk of the hospital.

"Hi, I'm here to pick up Katniss." I say quietly not wanting to draw any attention to myself.

"She's still in the cell. Go and see her if you please. She's being released in ten minuets."

I nod and rush to her cell. The new cell phone Haymitch made me get rings and I find a picture of Rye there. I left him with Effie and Haymitch incase she mutts again.

"Katniss." I whisper. "Hey, Katniss wake up." I coo to her.

"Peeta." She smiles. "Has it been a month already?" She sighs reaching through the bars and holding hands.

"Yes." I nod.

Her guard, Hugh comes to open the cell and let's her out. When were alone she drops my hands and looks to the floor. "Peeta...you do love me right?" She whispers.

"Is this about last visit?" I ask.

"Yeah." She nods letting a few tears fall from her eyes.

"Katniss I do love you, I just as scared and didn't know what to say." I hug her close.

"You could have said you loved me."

"I do Katniss. I love you, let's go." She nods as we walk from the prison hand in hand, but I start to walk towards the hospital.

"Where are we going?" She asks.

"The hospital, I'm sure they haven't checked you out. I want to make sure your okay.." I trail off tapping my head to tell her what I mean without speaking. She nods sadly an I lead her to the hospital.

They show us to a room and she asks me to wait outside. The door gets locked and I hear her shout a few times. But she calms back down quickly and finally they open the door.

"Come in." The doctors deep voice says. I nod and stand from the floor before sitting next to her. "So, she had a fairly mild case of what we called hijacking. Are you familiar with it?" He asks taking off his glasses and setting down his clipboard.

"Very." I sigh.

"Alright, so all we'll do is give her some antibiotics and she should be fine as long as their taken. Is that understood?" He asks.

"Yes. It is." She nods.

"Okay, then I assume we're done here." He nods and we Stan. I reach our and shake his hand, it's much more strong and confident then mine.

"Thank you." I nod. We wait for her medicine to be done and then we run to the car. "Do you want to take one now?" I ask quietly as she spins the pill container in her hand.

"Yeah." She takes one with a bottle of water Haymitch had left in his car. All her muscles relax and she leans against my shoulder.

"All better?" I whisper.

She nods. "All better."

"Good." We sit for a few seconds. "Would you like me to lay your seat back and get a pillow from the trunk?" I ask. "So you can sleep."

"Yeah." She yawns. I get out and find the pillow and lay her seat back. She's asleep within seconds. Because we are not taking the train, the ride will be longer then a day so we will have to stop so I can sleep.

I turn on the radio a few hours later, I've never really liked popular music. I like the stuff Katniss sings,  the songs we learned in school. I turn it up just barely and hear the radio begin to hum the words. "Are you are you, coming to the tree." I begin to get excited, I get to listen to this. The singer is Katniss, when she sang it on a propo. But as the song continues, to play and I hear the crazy Capitol remix. I tap Katniss's sleeping figure.

"Listen." I mumble. Her face scrunches when she hears the terrible rendition of the song. I watch her turn it off quickly. "What?" I ask wrapping her fingers in mine

"The damn capitol." She shakes he head. "I can't believe they made a different version of it. The song was meant for you, as a love note. But still they change it. And I was singing it and I hate hearing my voice on tape."  She smiles. I stop at a light.

"I think your a beautiful singer." I whisper.

"I love you." She replies.

"Oh Katniss Everdeen, I love you too." She kisses me slowly until the cars behind us honks their horns. We giggle as I continue to drive and I hold her hand in the car. "Can you sing to me though?" I ask.

"No Peeta. Maybe some other time." She smiles shyly.

"Okay."

"Can we get married soon?" She asks.

"Like how soon?" I ask.

"Next month, and then the wedding night I'll get pregnant again." She nods.

"You really would?" I smile getting excited.

"Of course!" She giggles. "So you want to have another kid?" She asks seriously.

I laugh. "Don't threaten me with a good time."

I do, I need you. #wattys2016Where stories live. Discover now
