When I wake I'm alone in a room, a room in the mansion. My arms are handcuffed to the a pole, I'm sitting on a chair. Two men stand with their hands crossed in front of them orderly. "Notify them she's awake." One nods and leaves the room quietly. I look around the room waiting for something to happen.
The door swings open and in walks my old mentor, Haymitch. I sigh and slump down, the cuffs dig into my wrists and I flinch sitting back upright. "Haymitch, Where's Peeta?"
"He's at home. Don't worry."
"Home?" I ask.
"He's back in twelve." He nods.
"He went without me?" I ask a little offended.
"You aren't allowed to leave the Capitol yet. I have a letter from Plutarch."
"I don't want it." I reply harshly.
"I didn't think so." He laughs. "That's why I'm here, to read it to you." He opens the unsealed envelope and pulls a piece of unlined paper out. "Katniss" he starts. "Since the death of Coin, I have been nominated as a presidential candidate. Along with many of the district leaders still alive. Because of your recent 'actions' I cannot be seen by your side yet, but I assure you, you will not be punished for your actions. I'll send a hovercraft to come get you later today. But until then, enjoy the food prepared in the dining hall. And Katniss, have a nice life. ~P."
I sigh loudly and lean my head back on the pole I'm chained to. "Let's go sweetheart." I hear him say. He unlocks my cuffs and helps me up. Almost instantly he pulls me into a tight hug sighing into my hair. "They killed him." He mentions.
"Who?" I ask not wanting to hear the answer.
"Snow, the rest of the rebels watching killed him."
"Who brought me here?"
"It doesn't matter Katniss. What matters is that everything now is over."
He lets go gently and pushes through the doors nodding to the men guarding outside the door. We walk towards the dining hall as Johanna stands waiting right inside the main door. "Your alive then?" She smirks. "I haven't heard anything of you in a while." I nod slowly.
"Been asleep I guess." I shrug. "Are you leaving?" I ask.
"Yeah, off to district seven to live the rest of my days alone." A black car pulls up in front of the doors and a man steps out in a nice suit. "That's my ride." She sighs.
I pull her into hug. "Don't be a stranger Johanna.." I whisper. She nods and stands back.
"I think I'll pay you a visit in twelve one day."
I nod and watch her leave the mansion as the driver leaves fast. A single tear falls down my cheek. I think she's becoming one of my closet friends.
We hurry into the dinning hall and there's three people already there. A man I've never seen, Annie, and Gale. "Haymitch, I'm not that hungry. I'll just go uhm, back to the room."
"Sweetheart you haven't eaten in days. You need to eat something."
"But Haymitch." I motion towards the Gale who's not paying attention to us.
"Come on." He nods. His hand lands on the small of my back and guides me around the room. We sit at the other end of the room so neither of us can see Gale. Food is spread out before us and I look at it amazed.
"Are people still starving?" I ask quietly.
"No their not." He smiles. "We sent rations out for each surviving family. We also shut all of the electric fences off in the districts. More people are hunting." I smile thinking about a world where people can hunt without having to fear the punishments.
