Our trek starts slowly up the mountain, with Peeta's prosthetic slowing us down. He walks behind us as we walk, Gale and I take the lead since we know the path. He wraps an arm around my shoulders and sighs. "I gotta say Catnip, never thought we'd actually do it."

"Take off?" I clarify.

"Yeah." He shakes my shoulders before letting go. I slow down and take the back of the pack with Peeta, to walk with him and watch everything.

"Are there peacekeepers in the woods?" He asks me quietly.

"No, there are no more peacekeepers at all." I assure him. Our squad is walking together slowly and everyone but Peeta had a weapon,  I should find him one. We continue walking until Effie decided we need a break.

"I need new shoes." She grumbles taking off her huge heels.  She chucks them into the river and we all crack up laughing. Pollux pulls a spare pair of shoes from his bag and hands them to her roughly. "These are ugly as sin!" She shrieks. We all stare at her with a death gaze before she sighs. "But I'll wear them.."

"Let's set up camp here." Haymitch orders, I nod and sit down with Peeta.

I pull a bunch I leaves together and create a makeshift pillow.  I lay him down and lay with him. We just lay there for a minuet and I watch everyone make their beds. They lay head to feet surrounding us in a circle. Like a protective wall. Gale stands and looks at me then to his bow. "Peeta, I'm going to go hunting. I'll be back I promise."

He grabs my arm before I can stand and looks into my eyes. "You need rest."

"I'm fine. We need food first, I'll rest when I get back." He breaths loudly and then nods accordingly.

"Don't go too far." I nod and he kisses my lips before I stand and pull on his extra jacket. Gale meets me outside the circle and remains silent as we walk. We find a large cliff and look out.

"You really love him huh?" He asks me as he cleans an arrow.

"Yeah. I do." I can't but find a huge grin on my face.

He smiles. That's when I'm sure I'm seeing things. But I blink and it's still there. The huge grin is still spread out on his face. "I'm happy for you. He might not be me, but I'm sure he'll treat you damn well."

I nod. "He does."

"Kisses you? Tells you he loves you all the time?" He asks. I nod. "Tells you everything's okay? Helps you?"

"Yeah."

"He'll never leave." He replies. I can't tell if it's a question or a comment so I smile.

"No, he'll never leave me."

"Good. You two deserve each other." I look at him confused. "You two have been through hell and back and neither of you are even twenty."

"He turns it next week." I mumble saddened we won't really be able to celebrate.

"Will you have kids with him?" He asks. I squeeze my eyes shut as we sit overlooking the valley. The sun is starting to set, and I shake my head.

"I don't want kids." I manage to say.

"But will you have them?" He presses. "For him?"

I do, I need you. #wattys2016Where stories live. Discover now
