My dress is heavy, heavier then it was in the shop. I believe it's because Effie had them add some rhinestones against my authority. I pull it on with help from mostly everyone in the room, then it came time for pictures. I posed a million different ways with the girls, and sometimes with Rye. This is nothing compared to what will happen after the actual wedding ceremony.
We toasted, with a shot of some alcohol Effie got from Haymitch. One shot turned to two, two turned to three, then finally we finished.
I raised the final one, everyone follows. "I'd just like to thank each and every one of you, I wouldn't be where I am without any of you. So, thanks." I smile standing on a chair taking the shot.
We slowly walk to the alter, I stay back in the room waiting for Haymitch and my mother, they'll be walking me down the isle. When they arrive I hug my mother, who smiles warmly. It's Haymitch who surprises me, he stands back with tears in his eyes looking at me. My eyes don't hesitate to cry a little also, he's like my father. Sure he'll never be my actual father, but he's pretty damn close.
I take his arm and link my other with my mothers as we walk towards the meadow. It's a quick walk, maybe fifty feet before I reach the isle. This is the last time I'll ever be an Everdeen.
The grass is quiet hard to walk on in heels, but that's not even on my mind. I'm walking, and then I see him. He's standing with his hands crossed in front of him. His golden hair slicked back with gel, his blue eyes sparking as he stands in his black suit. He brings his hands to his face covering the entire thing. Tears stream down his cheeks as I watch him, be bends over at the waist and continues to cry.
Everyone stands beside us as we walk down the isle, and sitting the front row: Blaine.
My eyes fixate on Peeta, who's starting to control his tears. They sill fall, but their slower. We stand five feet from him, and Castor stands ready to marry us. Like last time; except he's certified this time. "Who gives this girl away today?" He asks.
"I do, her mother." Mom says, my eyes waver to Haymitch and I nod.
"As do I, her father." Now it's my turn to cry, which I do. Not hard, but noticeable. He puts my hands in Peeta's as they turn to sit.
Haymitch plants a kiss on my cheek before retuning to his seat. I look up to Peeta finally, and look at his hair. "Can I just.." I slowly reach up and plow my fingers through his hair. I hear Effie gasp, and everyone else around us laughs. "Okay, thanks. You can start now." I say placing my hand back in his.
He looks down at me and shakes his head slightly before chuckling. "Dearly beloveds we are gathered here today to join these two beautiful souls, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark."
I tune out for a while, looking deep deep into his perfect blue eyes. I start to listen when Castor lays a hand on my shoulder. "Do you have any vows prepared?"
I throw my head back groaning. "I knew I forgot something..." I look to both of them who laugh. "Okay, well uhm. Peeta, I-"
"Repeat after me." Castor says. I nod. "I Katniss Everdeen, take you Peeta Mellark to be my husband. To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part."
"I Katniss Everdeen, take you Peeta Mellark to be my husband. To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part." I say trying my best to remember everything he said.
"Now Peeta?" He asks, Peeta pulls out a piece of paper from his jacket.
"I actually have vows." He laugh. "But I've never been one to use a script." He says tossing it to Effie's feet who shakes her head. "Alright, Katniss. As you and everyone else here knows, I have been madly, truly, and deeply in love with you since I was five years old. You were always on my mind, and you always gave me hope even in an abusive home. I was always trying to protect you, from things so measly. I was always wanting your attention, trying to speak to you and be with you. But you never have me the light of day." He pauses for everyone laughing. "But now, because Effie pulled one tiny piece of paper reaping your sister for the hunger games, because of all we've been through; you are finally mine. And trust me, I have absolutely no idea how it happened. But your still hear and you love me, so I think in the end we've won the games. I guess the odds were in a favor at least some times." He looks at me, speaking just to me, not for anyone else to hear.
I look up at him with tears streaming down my face. He pulls behind my ear and let's his own tears fall. "Great." Castor says. "Now for the rings."
I take a deep breath, Peeta handled getting the rings. A tiny Finn waddles to the front and hands them up. Peeta hides mine in his fist. "Repeat after me Katniss." I nod and listen. "I Katniss Everdeen give you Peeta Mellark, as a symbol of my eternal love and commitment to you."
"I Katniss Everdeen give you Peeta Mellark, this ring as a symbol of my eternal love and commitment to you."I say as I slip the band onto his finger.
"Your turn Peeta."
"I Peeta Mellark give you Katniss Everdeen, this ring as a symbol of my eternal love and commitment to you."
He slips it on my finger. He stone set in the middle is the biggest one I've ever seen. It's a square shape with smaller diamonds along the outside. I want to cry, well harder than I already am crying.
"Before we close the ceremony, does anyone have any objections to this pair becoming married?"
My head involuntarily swivels to the crowd as I look. That's when I see it. A head of messy blonde, hair darting towards the isle.
"I do."
