Chapter 22: The Uchiha Siblings [Naruto]

I knew something was bothering Rin. She hasn't spoken to any of us since her break down after the fight against the sound ninja. At this moment she was sitting on a cliff looking over the river. Her Katana had been destroyed by a sound wave during the fight but I knew that's not what was bothering her. She had bandages covering her left arm and not even Sakura knew what injury she had. According to Sakura, after our fight, Orochimaru took her with him so it could be anything.

"You hit her you know" I glanced to Sakura who sighed as she walked to me.

"What?"

"When you were fighting the sound ninja, you hit her because she got between you and one of them. You told her she was no better than them if she didn't move. I think that may be part of the reason she is upset."

"Part?" She shrugged.

"Shikamaru seemed to think there was more to it." I sighed running a hand through my hair.

"There's always more to it."

"You should talk to her." She advised before walking off. I sighed lightly as I began walking towards her pausing behind her.

"I'm sorry..." She didn't glance back.

"You were under the influence of the curse mark, I nearly killed Dad under the same influence remember?"  I sighed as I sat beside her.

"That's no excuse, you're my sister, and I'm supposed to protect you" I noticed her laugh slightly with no humour.

"Itachi told me the same thing, and in the end I always protected him. I risked everything for him and look how he repaid me." I sighed again as I ran a hand through my air.

"Now it's only a matter of time before you leave too."

"I would never leave you Rin; I couldn't put you through that."

"Why? I put you through it."

"You were just a kid that was hurt and confused."

"Orochimaru is a powerful ninja Sasuke and I know what you want, that's why I'm worried."

"If you can deny him then so can I."

"Promise?" I nodded.

"I swear." She smiled slightly. 

"Everything is going to be alright Rin, but we need your help to get the heaven scroll to pass." I noticed her eyes widen slightly and she reached into her kunai pouch.

"One step ahead of you" I stared slightly wide-eyed as she pulled out a heaven scroll and held it out to me.

"How did you..."

"When I got away from Orochimaru, I ran into a friend." I was about to ask who when her attention turned back to the camp.

"There's another person there" We jumped to our feet and ran back to camp Rin pulled a kunai and Kabuto jumped back releasing Naruto's wrist.

"What's going on here?" Kabuto stood straight and glanced to Rin.

"Your teammates here were trying to open the scroll." I noticed her sigh.

"What were you guys thinking?" I demanded but felt Rin's hand on my shoulder.

"It's my fault; I forgot to mention earlier that I had a heaven scroll." She held up the scroll and their eyes widened slightly.

"Why didn't head straight for the tower then!?"

"Because we all needed to rest up" Her eyes flickered to Kabuto.

"So you can leave now, my team is just fine."

"Not even a thank you?"

"No." I noticed him smirk slightly.

"Just a little agitated aren't we?"

"Yeah anymore and your team won't be able to find you" She threatened. He chuckled slightly.

"I'm just warning you that people are desperate to get more scrolls. Your way to the tower is going to be much harder."

"We'll manage." I nodded in agreement. Something in Rin's tone told me that this guy wasn't to be trusted. Not in the least.

"Very well..." He turned to leave but glanced back.

"I see you got injured, it's not good to baby injuries. You should take it off." He told her before walking off. She looked down at her arm and sighed.

"He's probably right." Rin shook her head.

"No, it's fine but we better get going." I nodded slightly in agreement as Rin began walking. She was hiding something but at the moment I wasn't going to pressure her for it, right now we just needed to get to the tower in one piece.
