Rin

I hated to admit it but this kid was fast. It was a little hard to keep pace with him at this speed but speed was the last bit of hidden technique I had in my arsenal and I wasn’t about to waste revealing it to keep up with some punk kid.

“We’ll catch up to him pretty soon”

“But he won’t be able to win this far away from the port” Sakura added to Naruto’s comment.

“I don’t know, he might have planned to come this way from the very beginning.” Sasuke noted simply. I nodded in agreement. Idate had too of have had training for this race, which means he knew what was he doing. We kept to the tree’s above the path as Naruto jumped up ahead to run by Idate. It felt different, the area.

“Sasuke, Sakura…”

“Genjutsu” They agreed to my unspoken word.

“I don’t think they’ve even noticed it.” I put my hands together performing the sign for release as I picked up the pace trying to catch up to Idate and Naruto. I noticed Idate run for a break in the trees.

“Don’t go that way!” Sakura’s voice shouted from behind me. Naruto slid to a stop as I ran forward just as Idate fell off the edge of the cliff.

“Idiot!” I jumped off the edge and focused the chakra to my feet sticking them to the cliff wall as I caught Idate’s wrist, his hand catching my own. I felt my feet slide slightly as I tried to carry his weight.

“Sasuke!” I shouted.

“Give us a second!” I heard Sakura’s voice shout. A rope fell down a few seconds after and I took hold giving it a sharp pull.

“Alright I got it!” I kept my feet to the wall helping them as they pulled us up and finally breathed a sigh of relief when we were on solid ground.

“That was reckless.”

“It also wasn’t necessary.” I glanced at Idate as I took Sasuke’s hand and he pulled me to my feet.

“It’s my mission to protect you, I’m bound by duty. If you had been some idiot traveller I may have just let you fall.” I told him coldly.

“That was a close one.” I nodded.

“A genjutsu over a genjutsu, not very easy to pull, I had trouble managing it in the chunin exams.” I explained. I flinched when a sharp pain jolted in my chest and bit back a cough praying Sasuke didn’t notice.

“Let’s keep moving, Idate” He nodded breaking into a run. I waited for a moment before pulling the pill bottle from my pouch. I dropped two pills into my hand and flipped the lid giving it a shake. I had only enough for maybe a week and depending on how much it acted up then the pills wouldn’t last. I sighed popping the pills into my mouth and swallowed them dry before sliding the bottle back into my pouch. I broke into a full sprint to catch up, I guess I’d have to wait and see how long they would last.

Sasuke

I wasn’t stupid. I had seen Rin flinch even if it was barely noticeable. The sudden waver in her eyes but I had gone ahead with the others. Unlike them I had noticed that she stayed behind a moment probably to take her pills and just now as we were loading the boat Rin caught up.

“Rin where were you?” Sakura questioned.

“Just checking the area making sure we weren’t being followed by the ninja that cast the genjutsu.” She lied smoothly as she jumped onto the ship. I sighed lightly as she jumped up to sit on the railing as we cast off.
