Rin
I sat with Shikamaru on the hill we had met. I was watching the little children running around laughing and playing ninja. I smiled slightly. Those were the easy days.
"So why aren't you on your mission?" I sighed glancing at Shikamaru.
"Because it's lame, the lowest ranked mission I've ever done was a B." He nodded slightly.
"We'll you are a genin now."
"Ah yes but slowly I'll get to a better rank with more challenging missions." He chuckled then as he looked at me.
"You have to start small Rin. Regardless of what you did when you were gone." I sighed as I looked at him but his gaze was cast to the sky. I knew I could trust him. I could always trust him, but trust wasn't the issue here.
"I can't tell you a lot of thing Shikamaru, not because I don't trust you but because you could be in danger if I did. I mean I was with Itachi for a long time and I was trained by some powerful people and I did things that I regret and I became something that I hope you'll never see but that's all I can really say." I attempted to explain. Shikamaru seemed to ponder this for a while until he sighed.
"So you were with your brother."I nodded slightly.
"Yeah, I just...it's hard to explain Shikamaru."
"I bet" I glared at him slightly.
"Don't use that tone with me, you weren't there that night. You didn't hear your family dying around you. You didn't almost die that night. You didn't lose everything in one night."
"But I lost you." I sighed running a hand through my hair as I looked at him.
"You need to trust me Shikamaru. I would never do anything to hurt the leaf." "Tell me something then, why did you come back?" I crossed my legs as I looked at Shikamaru meeting his gaze.
"I don't know. I just did. Sasuke needed me and I wasn't safe out there anymore. I never stopped thinking about returning in the time I was gone but there were things I had to do before I could. I don't know if I'm ready to be here as I am but I guess we'll find out." I heard him sigh as his dark eyes met mine.
"Just promise me one thing"
"Anything"
"If you're going to run off again then say good bye at least." I stared at Shikamaru. Actually meeting his gaze and studying his expression. He was always laid back and easy going, never one to show too much emotion or ask for much. Right now though, as I looked at him I could see it. The concern and anger he was trying to hide, the betrayal he had felt when I left so long ago. I smiled then and leaned over kissing his cheek softly.
"I promise." I heard him chuckle gently.
"And another thing"
"What?" He turned pressing his forehead against mine as I slight smile came to his face.
"A woman shouldn't be protecting a man. It makes things troublesome." I laughed slightly.
"So I'm a troublesome woman?" He chuckled again.
"You have no idea"
"Then why do you put up with me?" He shrugged slightly and a smile crossed his face.
"Because you're worth the trouble" I wanted to kiss him, more than anything at that moment and probably would have if a familiar voice hadn't interrupted us.
"So this where you wandered off to" I heard Shikamaru sigh as he moved away from me. I frowned slightly as I glanced back to meet the dark eye of none other than Kakashi.
