Kakashi

I stood outside of Rin's hospital room with Lady Tsunade and Suki. It's been a week now and the others were healing up fine but Rin still hadn't woken up. I had been restless since. I had taught him the Chidori and he had used it on Rin. Lady Tsunade said she had been lucky, that the hit was off almost as if he had held back. I glanced in through the small window, Shikamaru sat on the other side of her bed watching her as she slept.

"She needs to put under Anbu watch, twenty-four seven." I glanced at Lady Tsunade.

"She won't be happy about that" She sighed at my comment.

"We don't know what condition she'll be in once she wakes Kakashi"

"The last time one of her brothers left Konoha she ran after him and she was only five. It's been ten years, nearly eleven and she's stronger now. What's stopping her from following Sasuke?" Suki reasoned.

"That fact that he tried to kill her" I replied bluntly to which they fell silent.

"Itachi killed their entire clan and she still ran after him." Suki finally said.

"I'm sorry Kakashi but until we know how Rin will take this she is suspended from duty. No missions, no leaving the village. I don't even want her training if possible and under Anbu guard." I sighed ruffling my hair, Rin was not going to be happy about this one. I noticed Suki staring into the window and turned as Shikamaru took Rin's hand.

"I-I think she woke up."

Rin

I didn't want to wake up. I didn't want to return to the real world. I should be dead, right now I should be dead but one name came to mind as to why I wasn't, Gaara. I sighed and felt something shift beside me then a hand slipped in mine. I didn't feel a buzz, so I knew it wasn't him.

"Rin, are you awake?" I recognized the voice, it was Shikamaru. He was alive, that was good. I heard a door open then a series of footsteps. At least three others.

"Rin, Rin are you awake?" That was Kakashi. I felt his fingers graze my cheek and moved slightly towards his hand appreciating the warmth from it.

"Rin if you're awake open your eyes" That was Lady Tsunade and finally I slowly opened my eyes. Everything was a bright blur at first until slowly Shikamaru's face came into focus. I blinked a few times and looked around noticing Suki was here as well. I lifted myself slightly and felt Kakashi's hand on my back helping me to sit. I winced at the sudden pain beneath my ribs and reached for it wondering briefly where it came from until the memory came rushing back. I let my hands fall to my lap then and stared at the end of my bed as Lady Tsunade pulled off my oxygen mask and began to check my vitals.

"How are you feeling?" She asked gently and I looked around at the others. I hated the way they looked at me. The sympathy in their eyes and the worry, like they were waiting for me to slip away into nothing.

"Rin, how are you feeling?" I looked at Shikamaru but didn't respond and I could see the tears building in his eyes.

"She could be in shock from the ordeal." Lady Tsunade said with a sigh as I looked down at my hands. I released a slow breath and licked my dry lips.

"He's gone isn't he?" I whispered and they all fell silent. I felt Kakashi's hand on my shoulder and heard Lady Tsunade sigh.

"The mission was a failure but everyone is alive and that's the most important part." I didn't feel alive, I felt numb except for the warmth from Kakashi's hand on my shoulder. My brother, my Sasuke tried killing me and he left, he left me dying in the middle of nowhere.
