Gaara
I watched Rin from across the training field she sat on top of one of the thick wooden poles in the center of the field, her legs crossed and eyes closed. I could see the rise and fall of her chest as she kept her breath steady.
"...She is meditating..." The one tails whispered. Rin had been released from the hospital just the other day or rather had left and I wasn't surprised to find her out here. I walked up slowly not wanting to disturb her concentration as she continued with her even breathing. As I finally stood in front of her I noticed her sigh as she opened her eyes.
"It's not working" She started speaking to me as if I had been beside her watching the entire time.
"What's not working?" I questioned as she uncrossed her legs and let them hang over the side of the pole.
"I don't know, I'm trying to reach for something"
"Reach for what exactly?" I questioned further and noticed her nose scrunch in frustration before she lept off the pole.
"A power"
"A power?" I echoed and she sighed.
"Look I know it sounds crazy but it's happened more than once. When I fought Zabuza on my first mission and when I fought you after the Chunin exams and that fight against Kimimaro it comes in bursts and I don't really realize when it's happening but I know it has because after I feel drained and my illness starts acting up." I knew what she was talking about, the dark chakra that would unleash and she knew just as well as I did that it wasn't her curse mark causing it.
"Your illness?" I decided to question then, if she wasn't supposed to be aware of the source then I wouldn't be the one to reveal it.
"Yeah um it's no big deal really. It obviously doesn't affect my outer appearance if you couldn't tell."
"Is that why you were coughing blood after the fight with Kimimaro?" I noticed the flicker of a memory in her eyes and she sighed pushing back a stray strand of hair.
"Yeah, if I use too much chakra then that tends to happen"
"Then stop" I didn't flinch under her sudden glare as she turned to face me.
"My brother just ran away to a psychopath and you're telling me to stop!? I don't have time to stop when my brothers keep moving forward! That's why I need to reach that power Gaara, because maybe it'll be strong enough to bring him back!" I stared at her as angry tears threatened her eyes and she turned shaking her head and running a hand through her hair.
"Sorry, sorry I just um I've been really not myself lately. They've suspended me from duty and put a limit on my training hours and I'm just feeling really, really confined right now." I nodded slightly as she turned back to face me.
"Hit me" She stared at me.
"Excuse me?"
"I said hit me."
"Gaara you know I can't" I sighed lightly and took her hands gently in mine pulling her away from the poles and to a more open area of the training field. I could feel the buzz in our hands and it put me at ease but I could also feel the anger and building hatred within her.
