10 - Fight or Flight

CHAPTER TEN:
Fight or Flight

Kana and Kakashi stare at each other for a while more before Kakashi starts performing some hand signs at lightning fast speed. From the first few, she could tell that he was going to do a water jutsu. Two hand signs behind, she starts performing the same justu with a different chakra release.

"Water Style: Water Dragon Jutsu!"

"Fire Style: Fire Dragon Jutsu!" she manages to catch up and perform it just in time to counteract his jutsu.

After years of training under Kakashi's tutelage alongside Naruto, she knows his fighting style and preferred jutsu better than anyone else.

Their equivalent dragon jutsu smash into each other and create a heavy cloud of smoke. She can hear whispering on the other side of the fog but is unable to make out exactly what is being said.

With purpose, Itachi shoves Kana aside which allows Sakura's chakra punch to only touch the air. Kakashi follows close behind Sakura with an outstretched leg, attempting to kick Kana in the side. However, Itachi's fingers coil around Kakashi's leg before he is close to hitting his partner before throwing him across the field in one swift motion.

"You take Kakashi. I've got these two." Kana cracks her knuckles.

Naruto stands in front of Sakura defensively.

"Move over, Naruto. I want to be the first one to knock some sense into our friend." Sakura says and glares at Kana who chuckles lowly.

"Try me." she challenges with a confident smirk. Sakura charges forward at Kana who is standing completely still. With determination, Sakura throws her powerful fist towards Kana's face. The skin on Sakura's knuckles graze against her opponents nose before the blonde disappears leaving only traces of a yellow flash. Sakura's eyes dart around, unknowing that Kana now stands behind Naruto.

Kana unsheathes her sword and holds it against Naruto's neck.

"Aww, come on. Neither of you are going to make this fun?" she evilly teases.

Naruto thrashes around in her death grip but to no avail. She prays to God that she wouldn't accidentally cut him, even the slightest slice. Kana doesn't want to be the reason that Naruto, her beloved nephew gets injured.

Sakura stands there with a clear dumbfounded expression, completely shocked at the speed which Kana moves at. Everyone knows that she is fast, but now... it is obvious that she is somehow even quicker than she was before.

"Kill yourself or Naruto dies." Kana states. This is more or less a test which Kana is evaluating. She wants to know whether they will be able to handle themselves in battles against stronger opponents, though not many are more powerful than Kana.

Sakura whips out her kunai and holds it to her own neck.

"My my, you've grown." Kana raises her eyebrow slightly. She then looks over to the side where Kakashi and Itachi are fighting and decides to go join their battle instead. With a wave goodbye, Kana flashes away to join the fight that is seemingly more fun.

Kakashi realises that Kana now stands before him alongside Itachi. Pitifully, he tried to guilt trip her into coming home again.

"What about when you found out that Minato died, Kana? Who was there for you?"

Kana feels the breath knocked out of her as her memories of that horrible day are triggered by Kakashi's words.

*FLASHBACK*

"Here, Lady Kana. Stay here and don't move until someone comes and gets you, okay?" the anbu says to young Kana. She nods her head and the anbu black op locks the door and leaves. Kana concentrates on the sounds around her, listening intently. After a few moments, she swears that she can hear a baby crying and on instinct... goes to the source.
