CHAPTER FORTY NINE
A Nightmare in a Nightmare

"PUSH!" the nurse yells. Her voice only aids in irritating the feisty Kana further.
"SHUT THE HELL UP!" Kana snaps and slaps the nurses hand away aggressively. Her blue eyes are glowing to show her anger.
"Kana, she's trying to help you. Calm down." Itachi says gently. After hearing his voice and remembering that their fingers are interlaced, she calms down. She almost forgets about the pain.
The feisty mother-to-be narrows her eyes at the nurse before huffing and murmuring a 'fine'.
The lady nervously resumes her job and Kana pushes as hard as she possibly can. The nurse smiles and urges her to continue.
"The head is out!" she exclaims. "keep going." her voice is kind.
Itachi remains holding Kana's hand but takes a step backwards to peek. As soon as he sees all of the blood and fluids on the babies head he quickly steps back to her side so he never has to see it again.
"You did it." the nurse says.
Kana is overwhelmed with joy.
The nurse holds up the baby.
"Chakra..." the dark, evil being screeches.
Kana's heart pounds out of her chest as she jolts up, sweaty and panting. Itachi is immediately sitting up beside her.
Straight away he lovingly wraps his strong arms around her. "It's okay," he insists. "It's alright, I'm here." Itachi gently rocks her side to side to calm her down. "It was just a dream." he can feel her body shaking and trembling.
No, it was a fucking nightmare. Not a dream.

"A nightmare? What about?" Karin asks while stirring the ingredients for stirfry in the pan.
"A demon baby..." Kana responds softly. "It's so embarrassing. I haven't had a nightmare since I was a child." she scratches at the back of her neck.
"Nightmares are completely normal, Kana. It could just be your mind playing tricks on you after finding out about her chakra absorbing abilities." Karin explains as she throws bacon bits into the frying pan. Kana can't help but doubt this statement.
Kana rests her cheek in her palm and elbow on the table and remains seated on the stool across the table from Karin cooking.
"You might be right. But... what if... she's showing me this?"
Karin stops stirring and looks over at her. "A twenty week baby... that's only five months old. You think that she has the sharingan?"
"I-I know it sounds ridiculous-" Kana begins defensively before being interrupted.
"Everything is ridiculous when it comes to you and Itachi. I believe you." Karin says reassuringly before the oil in the pan start popping and she is distracted.
The tired blonde girl lets out a sigh and holds the cup of hot chocolate between her ice cold and shaking hands.
Warmth instantly fills her when Itachi rests his hands over hers. "Here," he takes his Akatsuki cloak off and puts it over her shoulders. "is that better?"
He's such an angel.
Kana thinks as he does this.
A joyful grin spreads across her previously nervous face. "Mhm. Thank you."
His heart pangs.
She's such an angel.
The thought crosses the Uchiha's mind.
"I can't believe you're leaving today." she frowns.
"I'll only be gone for four days. Less if I can get the assignment completed done faster. Nothing is going to go wrong in four days, okay?" he kisses her cheek.
"You're right. What can happen in four days?" she responds and shrugs her shoulders.
