CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT

"What's the meaning of this meeting, Pain?" Kisame asks.

All of the Akatsuki members have been summoned to the main area for no apparent reason. They all impatiently wait for Pain to tell them why they're all here.

"Yeah, what's going on?" Kana stands beside Itachi who has his arm tightly secure around her waist.

"Everyone, meet Karin. She'll be staying with us indefinitely."

Kana lets out a soft chuckle under her breath. Itachi glances down at her with confusion.

"What is it?" he asks.

"That was me ten months ago. Time sure flies."

Karin stands awkwardly in the middle of the room.

"I'm Kana." Kana flashes to the middle of the room, directly in front of Karin's face. Karin jumps in fright and lets out a squeal. "We've met, but not as comrades, just as enemies. I swear I'm not that scary when we're on the same side." Hidan lets out a snarky 'pft' to her statement and in response Kana throws a kunai, stabbing him in the hand. She calmly shakes Karin's hand gently with a smile before flashing back to Itachi's side. She glances over at Hidan and gives him the finger as he wails in annoyance.

Kana gently takes Itachi's arm and wraps it back around her body.

"Itachi Uchiha." Itachi plainly says. Kana jabs him in the ribs with her finger. He flinches. "Nice to meet you."

Kana smiles brightly at his kind words and her reaction makes him smile.

"I'm Deidara, un." Deidara gives her a lopsided smile.

"Sasori." Karin's eyes follow the voice and they land on Sasori in his 'human' form. They hold each other's gaze and seem fascinated by each other. She quickly breaks it off, she must be a bit scared of him.

Kana watches this with interest.

"I'm Kakuzu." he says and raises his arm as a wave. Karin waves her hand back.

"I'm Hidan, don't piss me off like Kana does and we'll be fine."

"Don't be a dickhead, Hidan." Kana warns as she takes a challenging step towards him. Hidan jumps back and raises his hands up in defeat. "Sorry." he quickly squeaks, making Itachi hold back a laugh.

"I'm Konan." the beautiful blue haired ninja smiles at Karin who returns the calming gesture.

"Kisame, pleasure to meet you." he nods.

"Zetsu is somewhere in the floor or the walls." Kana comments. Deidara chuckles.

"Hey, where's Tobi, hm?" Deidara looks around but can't see him anywhere.

"He's been disappearing a lot lately. I haven't really seen him around either." Kisame says.

"Weird."

"That's just about all of the members." Pain says. Karin nods slowly, probably still trying to wrap her head around the whole situation.

"Can you cook?" Kana questions.

"Yes." Karin answers as her eyes light up.

"Let's go, then. Finally, I won't be the one cooking every single day." Kana jokes as she leads Karin to the kitchen area.

She sits herself down on one of the stools as Karin looks around to figure out where all of the cooking utensils are.

"So, how are you feeling?"

"Confused." Karin answers honestly.

"I felt the same way when I first came here, but now they're my family and I love them. You'll get to this stage before you even realise."

Deidara comes out of nowhere and plops himself down on the stool beside Kana.

"You two are friends?" Karin asks as she holds a pot in front of her to examine.

"Best friends." Kana answers and grins at Deidara who grins back.

"Where are the frying pans?" Karin asks as she peers into the fridge.

"Top cupboard. So, Karin, have you and Sasori had a chance to get to know each other yet?" Kana raises her brow in interest to hearing her answer. Karin almost drops the frying pan she's holding.

She quickly spins around to face the pair with wide eyes before recovering. "No, I haven't gotten to talk to him yet. Why?"

Kana and Deidara share a look. "No reason. But, uh, you know, he is the reason we brought you back to the base with us. Deidara, Itachi and I were just planning on leaving you there but for some reason Sasori wanted to keep you around."

Karin flushes a deep shade of red. "Why?"

"We don't know. Maybe you should go ask him, hm." Deidara smirks.

"I'm gonna go, but let me know if you and Sasori get around to having that chat, yeah?" Kana winks at Karin before walking out of the kitchen towards Itachi's room.

As Kana takes the corner, she bumps into somebody.

"Shit!" she shouts as she almost falls backwards. A hand shoots out and grabs hers to stop her from falling. Kana regains her balance and lets out a sigh of relief that she didn't embarrassingly hit the ground.

"Sasori, what's up?" Kana asks. Sasori stares into her eyes emotionlessly and Kana starts to get a bit freaked out. "You good?" she asks and waves a hand in front of his face.

"Have you been talking to Karin?"

Kana smirks.

"Yeah, why?" she asks with interest.

"Wipe that smirk off your face. I'm just asking." he scoffs.

"PLEASE! You never ask me about anything! Sasori has a crushy wushy!" Kana chuckles as she grabs his cheeks with her hands.

Ever since Kana brought him back to life they've formed a closer bond than ever before. They are like brother and sister, they care about each other deeply like family and they don't need to speak every single day to know that.

Since the life-changing experience, Sasori has started thinking about things he has never thought of before. Love, happiness, serenity. Seeing Kana with Itachi has made him curious.

At that exact time, Karin appeared in their lives and Sasori has never found himself more entranced by a human girl before.

"Stop it, you annoying brat." he smacks her hand away.

"What has sparked your sudden interest in love, Sasori?" she questions with genuine curiosity.

"You, actually."

"Me? I'm flattered, Sasori. But I'm kind of taken." Kana jokes. He rolls his eyes and walks past her towards his bedroom.

Kana trails behind, still expecting a further explanation besides just 'you, actually.'

"Why are you following me?" he asks as he pushes the door to his room open. Kana enters and plops herself down on his unused bed.

"Well, explain. What did I do to help?" she  asks.

"You and Itachi. You look so at peace whenever you're together."

Kana cocks her head to the side and smiles. "Well, I'm glad. Get around to talking to her, will you? I'd love to see you happy." And with that, Kana gives a wave before walking out the door, leaving behind a smiling Sasori.
