CHAPTER FORTY SIX
My Sensei's Legacy
________________________"That's Jiraiya sensei." Kana murmurs to herself. "What's he doing here? And why is he fighting against the Six Paths of Pain?"
Her mind is in a frenzy. Her old sensei is the last person she expected to see in the Hidden Rain Village. Especially on the one day she is here.
The atmosphere makes her extremely uneasy.
He's in the water, severely injured. He doesn't look like he can handle much more.
Four of them leap high into the air above him. Kana wants to scream out 'beneath you!' as loud as she can. She lifts her hand up and bites down until blood pours from her skin. She knows she can't call out to him.
Jiraiya is instantly distracted by the four and he looks up. One of the Pain's emerge from the water beneath him and grab onto his throat. It's been crushed. Jiraya coughs up blood.
"You were too late figuring it out." Pain states as he stabs through his old sensei with a metal rod. All the other Pain's penetrate their rods into Jiraiya's back, restricting his movements.
Kana's hands tremble as she watches. She wants to look away but can't bring herself to.
Jiraiya's eyes start to slowly close.
Kana's heart stops. She opens her mouth to scream out to him.
Itachi quickly wraps his hand over her mouth.
*FLASHBACK*
"Why are you staring at me, Pervy Sage?" Kana uses Naruto's nickname for their sensei with a giggle.
"You look so much like your brother." he admits nonchalantly. She smiles. "Kana, when I die... I'm entrusting the world of shinobi to you and Naruto. Minato is gone, so he can't carry on my legacy. I look at you two twerps and see nothing but him inside you. That burning flame. It's the will of fire. I believe that peace is in our grasp, and you and Naruto could be the ones to bring it upon this damaged world." he raises his hand up to the sky and hovers his palm in front of the sun. The bright rays shine through the gaps between his fingers.
*FLASHBACK OVER*
Itachi takes his hand off her mouth. Kana is completely still.
The Pain's are walking away as Jiraiya's finger twitches. That flame is inside him, too, and it's strong. He pushes himself up despite the tremendous pain he is feeling. Pa jumps off his shoulder and leaps in front of him. Jiraiya gathers chakra to his finger and engraves a coded message into Pa's back.
"Message received." Pa clasps his hands together to reverse summons himself back to Mount Myōboku.
"A dying message, eh? He wrote it in code." the Pain's jump down and one of their arms explode and hurdle directly in Jiraiya and Pa's direction.
Another loud explosion sounds through the village and the piece of land Jiraiya was laying on is completely obliterated.
"The toad... it got away." Pain says in an annoyed tone before they all leave to go back to the tower where they stay.
After being completely sure all of them are gone, Kana jumps up from her hiding position and dives into the water. She is trained in Water Style. After being in the water so much when she was younger and learning about the element, Kana can swim almost like Kisame.
She speedily reaches Jiraiya and grabs his wrist before he hits the bottom. With chakra focused to her legs to help her kick faster she swims back up to the surface and hauls his heavy body onto a block of land floating in the water.
Itachi is crouching down beside them.
"He's dead." Kana states with sadness. Defeat is evident in her blue eyes. "Can we... bury him? Please? I won't be able to sleep at night knowing he's laying at the bottom of a filthy lake. Jiraiya sensei deserves better."
Without any trace of hesitation Itachi nods at her request. "Of course," he responds.
Itachi picks up his body and holds Kana's hand as they flash to her chosen destination.
The blonde girl smiles slightly at the scenery.
Itachi is clearly surprised as he blinks rapidly and looks around. "Where are we?" he asks as he observes his unfamiliar surroundings.
They're standing in the middle of a gigantic garden of never ending flowers. Roses, lilies, sunflowers and even beautiful blooming cherry blossom trees overhead. Every beautiful plant can be found in this garden.
"Konoha. I found this garden when I was a little girl. This is where Minato and Kushina are buried." she points to the two headstones across from them. "Nobody knows about it. I used to bring Naruto here every time somebody shunned or abused him for being the nine tail's vessel. As soon as he saw the flowers he was happy. Without him even knowing, he was with his parents." Kana says with a smile on her face as she reminisces. She guides Itachi to the side by side tombstones and uses her earth style to create a hole in the ground beside her brother.
"Pervy Sage, you are a hero." her kind voice fills the air before she glances at Itachi. He nods his head and gently lowers the Great Sannin's limp body into the hole. Kana uses her earth style to cover it up with land and she lets out a small sigh.
She wants to cry, but now is not the time for tears.
"My sensei's legacy." Kana murmurs, leaving Itachi confused. "Jiraiya sensei entrusted me with the world of shinobi. I have a bad feeling, Itachi. Like something big and dangerous is coming. " she says.
