CHAPTER SIXTY NINE
No Mercy
_________________________A sudden loud bang from downstairs awakens Kana from her peaceful afternoon nap. She sits up in a startle and quickly finds her way off the bed.
She feels for the door with her fingertips before taking a step backwards and kicking it down with force. Her bare feet hit the stone floor along the hallway, then she pauses to listen for more noises to indicate where everyone is.
"Behind you!" Sasori shouts out from below before the sound of glass shattering echoes in Kana's eardrums.
Hastily, she concentrates on her daughter's presence and once locked on to it, she flashes there.
"Kana!? Get back!" Deidara shouts frantically before explosions occur close to her. She can feel debris hitting her skin.
A tightening sensation forms on her wrist as Karin coil her fingers around her and pulls her back to safety. They squat down on the floor behind a flipped table.
"Karin, tell me what's going on." she demands. Not being able to see is the worst thing in the world. Kana feels helpless.
Karin hesitates to answer. "Rogue ninja from the Sand are here for Reika's bounty."
"How many? What are their abilities? Who's fighting them?" Kana immediately spits question after question.
"I-I can't say. Itachi told me to keep you out of danger, and I can't help but think that if I tell you what's going on... you'll do something reckless." Karin responds nervously.
Kana spins around, her eyes wide open. Her pupils that usually illuminate a blue glow are instead, white. As if she can still see clearly, Kana stares straight into Karin's eyes. The hairs on Karin's arms stand from the intensity radiating off her.
"That is my daughter in danger." she states menacingly.
"There are three of them here. Two are regular ninja and the other one has the ability to manipulate sand from the ground. Itachi is holding him off straight ahead of us and Sasori is against the other two on the left. Reika is safe in Deidara's arms." she pauses, "I think they followed us from our weapon outing earlier today." she explains as fast as she can.
As soon as she finishes speaking, Kana has disappeared. Leaving no trace.
"Get back."
Itachi jumps backwards at Kana's request as she appears in between him and his opponent. Her hands move quickly while she weaves untraceable signs.
"Water Style: Raging Waves!" large amounts of water spew from her mouth and hit her target, completely drenching him. This renders his sand manipulation technique useless.
"Woah, a water style user, huh?" he asks with intrigue.
"Fire Style: Fire Breath Jutsu." she murmurs and exhales flames at him. All of her other senses are heightened, which means she can hear his footsteps as he dodges her attack... heading straight into the next one.
"And this one is called, Rasengan." the real Kana stands waiting beside him and launches her hand straight into his stomach. He got so distracted with the water style jutsu that he didn't notice her switch out with a clone amongst the waves crashing down on him.
The spiralling mass of chakra hits the man and leaves him on the floor with blood pouring from his injured skull.
The blonde calmly walks over to him and kneels down to get closer to his level. She grabs a fistful of his shirt and hoists him up so his face is right in front of hers.
"This is when I would tell you to stay away from my family, and to warn everybody you see, that my daughter is off limits. However, there's no point telling that to someone who is never going to meet another living human." Kana stands up and holds his head up by the hair. She swings her leg into his neck and snaps it. The crunching noise is painful to listen to.
Karin squeals in fear from behind the table where she remains safe.
"Shit..."
Oh, so that's where the other one is.
Following her sense of smell, and the momentary sound from the unfamiliar voice, she flashes in front of the other intruder.
All he sees is a flash of yellow, and the next thing he knows she is standing before him with her hand around his neck.
"Agh!" he chokes. "P-Please! I'm just a teenager!"
The boy begs for mercy.
It's too bad Kana has none.
