CHAPTER NINTY EIGHT
On The Verge
_________________________"Oi!"
Kana and Itachi come to a halt on their travels back toward the battlefield. The loud female voice makes them nonchalantly turn around. Both had noticed this ninja trailing behind them but chose to ignore her, like ignoring a fly in hopes that it will give up and go away to bother someone else.
"What?" Kana retorts, her eyebrow arched high as she impatiently waits for an answer.
The oh-so-bothersome dark haired kunoichi before them wears an Allied Shinobi headband. Kana notices this feature as the unidentified female drops down from the trees to block path of the two dangerous Akatsuki members.
She is blocking their path. She is now a problem.
"I'm not letting you back into the war." she boldly states amidst her hand quickly moving to whip a kunai out of her back pocket.
"I don't think you get to make that call." Kana fires back with her eyes slowly narrowing at the pest in her way. She can't afford to waste any time playing games with this irritating human. Getting back to the main battlefield is her and Itachi's main priority.
Allied Shinobi girl diverts her attention and points at Itachi. "I might spare your life if you step aside and let me kill him. One of you going back is better than both.", is her compromise.
"I'm not quite sure that I heard you right. It sounded like you said something about killing my lovely husband."
"You heard right."
An unexpectedly sweet giggle resonates within the earthy forest and reaches the ears of the Allied Force shinobi. With a unmistakably sinister smile Kana replies, "You're going to wish I heard wrong." before she leaves Itachi's side and slowly makes her way across the ground to her opponent. At a calm, slow pace, she walks. Her black heels dig into the soil with each step. The Akatsuki cloak wrapped around her body sprawls back and sways behind her from the wind. "So, tell me. Do you know how many bones are in the human body?"
With a taken aback expression, her opponent responds with a hesitant, "No."
"Two hundred and six." Kana crackles her knuckles. "Now, for a little pop quiz on what you just learnt. How many bones in your body do you think I can shatter before you can open your mouth to beg for your life?"
With each nonchalantly spoken word, Kana draws closer and closer to the now-wavering kunoichi across from her. And with each step forward, she brings an atmosphere of impending death along with her.
No response.
"The correct answer is two hundred and six. You fail. And if you had a future ahead, I would have told you to pay more attention next time."

"How's your wrist?" Itachi checks in again to make sure his love isn't in pain. He gazes down at her as they walk side by side.
Gently, Kana massages the slightly aching body part. "Breaking bones is really straining in the wrists..." she complains with a sigh and shake of her head.
The Uchiha's casually stroll away from the destroyed dead body in the middle of the forest.
"Have you ever broken someone's bones before?" Itachi asks his wife from genuine curiosity. He never wants to stop learning more about her. She's so fascinating to him.
