Deidara's Mission

PREVIOUSLY ON FATAL ADDICTION: WAR ARC

"You can't leave us. I love you so much, Kana." Itachi's tears fall on her face and slide down her cheeks.

Kana's eyes slowly start to close. "Itachi... I'm sorry, I love you."

Her hand falls and hits the ground with a thud. For a moment, everything is silent. The aching silence is then overthrown by rain, as it begins to fall heavily from the above. Heaven cries with the Akatsuki.

Itachi stares up at the sky, water streaming down his face. He watches heaven cry, and cries in its company with a pain so great he may never heal.

Amidst the intense chaos of the Fourth Great Ninja War, a small family loses a loved one, their light.

"We have to move him. He's in the line of fire. He's going to die." Kakuzu states to Kisame, Deidara, Sasori, Pain and Konan. The Akatsuki struggle to stop mourning the loss of Kana Namikaze while the fourth great ninja war rages on around them.

Itachi cries over Kana while holding her limp, lifeless body in his arms with his forehead pressed against hers. He is broken.

"Itachi, brother. We have to move." Kisame rests his hand on his friend's shoulder but Itachi does not acknowledge his statement or physical touch. Kisame watched Itachi and Kana meet then watched them blossom into a beautiful family. He knows Itachi's pain, but cannot fully understand it. Nobody quite can.

Naruto Uzumaki shakes the shock and horror out of his own body. He straightens up and glances over at the ten tailed beast resisting the former Hokages' attacks. He says, "Sakura, Sasuke. Let's go. We have to end this."

"Itachi, it will be okay." Naruto speaks to his aunty's husband with heavy pain laced in his voice before leaving. He looks over Itachi's shoulder. Kana's long blonde hair is covered in dirt. Her eyes are closed, but Naruto can still imagine her striking blue orbs staring back at him. She has scratches on her face and blood continues to slowly pour from her stomach wound. Naruto can't believe his father's sister, Kana, is dead. With a new burning flame lit inside him, Naruto knows he must avenge her death. There is no time left to spare.

Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura depart to help the Hokage while the Akatsuki remain by their fallen comrade's side.

"It can't be... she can't be gone." Deidara speaks to himself in disbelief. He's stuck in a trance induced by heartbreak at the loss of his best friend.

Konan sternly says, "It happened. It's too late. Kana's gone." each of the members turn their heads to face Konan. Her harsh words are shocking. The Akatsuki members' eyes widen as she tries to wipe her uncontrollably streaming tears away. "Kana's gone... and she wouldn't want us to stand here crying. We have to finish this war. We have to fight for her, for everything she has done. Our Kana, our leader... we have to fight for her. We can't stand here crying. We have to carry on her legacy."

Itachi's head rises.

"We have to end this war by defeating Madara and Obito. Then, we have to get home to Rei." Konan finishes her speech. Paper begins to fly around her majestically as she creates wings and prepares to fight.

Itachi lays Kana's body down. He stands up with his back to his comrades. The Uchiha turns around to face the Akatsuki. His bloodshot Sharingan eyes have tears and blood below. "Someone needs to take Raidon and retreat immediately." Itachi says sternly. "Kana's body needs to be taken away from here. Keep her safe. Deidara, this is your mission. Take them. You know where to go." after a stern nod to Deidara, he continues.
