Understanding Comes First

"I have a mission." Itachi says as he slips his Akatsuki cloak on.

"Wait, who's your partner?" Kana sits up straight and closes the book in her hand.

"Kisame." he answers.

A frown spreads across her face. "Why isn't Pain sending me on any missions?" she asks.

"He doesn't want you or the baby to get hurt."

Kana stands up and walks out of the room. She walks through the hallways until she reaches Pain's office. She lightly knocks on the door.

"Come in."

She enters and Pain sighs. "Yes, Kana?"

"I can look after myself on a mission, you know." she blatantly says with no sugar coating.

"I know." he responds, still staring down at a file in his hand.

"So why aren't you sending me out there?" she asks.

He snaps his head up to lock his rinnegan eyes with her blue orbs. "You know how to look after yourself on a mission, but barely. Your actions are reckless. You get yourself hurt all the time because you know you can heal fast. You've probably broken every bone in your body at least once. I'm not sending you out on a mission until you can understand that you're not just looking after yourself anymore. You are looking after another life, too."

Kana's mouth hangs open in shock for a moment.

He isn't just being protective, he's being loving.

"I agree," Kisame's voice surprises Kana. He steps into the room. "I will look after Itachi, Kana. I have always got his back so you don't have worry about him." he nods reassuringly at her.

She nods her head. "Thank you. Both of you." she lifts her hand and waves goodbye as she exits.

She walks to the kitchen where Itachi is sitting talking to Karin. He motions for her to go closer and Kana does so.

She stands in front of the stool he is sitting on and he softly kisses her nose. "Bye. I love you." he says.

"I love you, too. Be safe." Kana replies as he walks away. She takes his previous seat on the stool as she watches him leave.

"What were you two talking about?" Kana asks, half curiously half sassily.

"Why you fainted last week during sparring." she responds.

"Any answers?"

"Well, Itachi said that he thinks the baby was conceived on the night of your birthday."

Kana lets out a light chuckle.

Yeah. That was definitely some baby making sex.
She thinks.

"So, that would make you five weeks pregnant."

"Oh, wow." Kana puts her hand against her flat-for-now belly.

"One month down, eight to go." Karin smiles. "I always wanted to be a mom."

"Really?" Kana's interested. She can't relate.

"I mean, of course. A baby is... a miracle. You're bringing a whole new life into existence. It's a mini you. A literal product of love. In this case, at least." she explains. "I haven't known you that long, but even I can tell that if you and Itachi keep this little one, it will be raised by the most loving and accepting parents."

Kana feels her heart pang at the sweet words. She stands up and wraps her arms around Karin, bringing her in for a hug. She accepts and holds her close.

"I'm... going to be a mother."

a/n: y'all it gets so hectic in a few chapters i can't stop myself from going on a rampage and publishing the fillers one after the other i'm too excited. u know what i'm gonna go mad and post 4 chapters because frick me this is all just background info we want conflict & fights
