Melancholy

Flynn

The next time I woke up I was left alone on the soft mattress of the bed. I purred contentedly enjoying the contact of my body to the velvety material. It has been years since I woke up like this on my own bed.

It was just a matter of seconds that realization hit me hard making me stood up from the bed and ran towards the door of the room. A huge sigh of relief escaped my lips when the wooden access was not locked once I tried to open it. I gently closed it back then rested my forehead against it, allowing my nerves to calm and get over of my fear of being confined. An anxiety that I developed after that day of the accident. I quickly shook out the thoughts out of my mind. This was not the right time for drama. What should I really have to do now was to find a way out of here.

"Believe me baby, I meant no harm. I'm here to protect you. You're now safe and sound, Flynn. No one's going to lay a single finger on you."

His words suddenly rang in my mind. I could still feel the gentleness on his voice which soothed each nerve inside my body. And I was still left wondering how that deep and manly voice of his could be so calm and tender. He doesn't seem to be cruel and even though his body was full of muscles, he held me with such care like I'm some piece of a brittle glass ready to be broken anytime soon. Does that make him different from the others? Does that make him like Lira and Tristan? Does that make him a companion to be trusted of?

I shut my eyes and knocked my forehead on the wooden door when those questions don't seem to be needed answers anymore. Maybe we could have a decent talk. Yeah, I think that was the best idea so far. I wanted to know what he wants from me even though I knew for sure that me being a carrier- a male carrier to be specific was one of the reasons why I'm here with him.

I immediately composed myself and took a deep breath before my hand held the door knob and made a slow twist. I poked my head out of the door and looked from left to right. When I made sure that there was no one around. I silently stepped out of the room and walked through the long hallway of doors. The place seemed to be a huge mansion where someone like me could be lost but fortunately, the passage was a straight pathway which made me easily found the flight of steps down to the ground floor.

My nose suddenly got a whiff of the delicious aroma of food when I reached the bottom. It made my mouth watered and my stomach growled. I followed the alluring scent and my feet had brought me to the kitchen. There, I saw the unknown man sitting on the stool, his back was facing my direction while he was busy talking to a cooking old lady. I immediately hid myself on the wall separating the two areas before I appear on the line of their sight. I could hear them talking to each other.

"What's with the sad face, Hendrix?" My ear picked up the worried voice of the old lady referring to the man whose name I learned just now was Hendrix. The name sounds familiar but I couldn't decipher to where I heard the name.

"You already found him." The old lady added. I guess it was me she was referring to.

I heard the man let out a deep sigh. "Yeah, I've wanted this for a long time, to have him back to his home b-but we all know it's still not safe here in the island, Ada. I brought him back to his homeland where most of the breeders inhabit. I guess bringing him back here was a wrong decision. I guess I was just thinking of myself all this years."

"Chromia Island." I whispered to myself. So I'm finally backed to my birthplace. I'm finally backed to the place where my papa and mama had lived. My homeland. My papa used to tell me stories about this island. I grew up with his words on how exquisite this island was. He even promised me he would bring me back here but that didn't happen because he died when I was seven.
