My Cinderella Story (Liam Payne)

CHAPTER 40

I woke up Saturday morning. Hurlbutt's still asleep. She's really worrying me about her health. She's getting fat and really lazy. But that could also be a good thing. I was watching tv when my phone rang. "Hello?" I said. "Good morning Sarah. It's the vet." A male voice said through the phone. "Oh, any news?" I asked. "Yes, you need to come to the vet. NOW."

"Liam pick me up now. It's Teddy. I don't know yet. My cars in the shop. Yes it broke down again please hurry!!!" I said as I hung up after talking to Liam. I was running around the house freaking out while trying to get ready, luckily no ones up yet but me. I grabbed my phone as I ran to Liam's car as he pulled in.

"Let's go." I said nervously as he drove off. "Why didn't the doctor tell you about Teddy?" Liam asked. "Cause he's an idiot." I frowned. We drove in silence. What if Teddy's about to die? What if he already did........

"We're here for Teddy." Liam said as we ran to the front desk. "Right this way." A lady led us to a room. The stupid vet was standing there. "Hello." He fake smiled. "WHY ARE WE HERE?!" I yelled. Liam put his arm around me to calm me down. "Because..." The doctor sighed.

"Teddy's dead."

No. No. No.

He can't be. No. He's all I have. No. I need him.

"But-NO!!" I screamed. "He's my- I just can't-no!!" I passed out into Liam's arms.

Why did Teddy have to leave me?

"Sarah, wake up!" I opened my eyes. I was laying on a chair in the doctors office. All the memories came flooding back. I started bawling. "It's okay, at least Teddy's not in pain anymore. He was sick and hurt, but not anymore." Liam smiled. I sobbed into his shirt. "Do you want to say good bye?" The doctor asked. I nodded. "Follow me." He said.

We followed him to a dark room full of freezers. It was cold and made you feel sad and the air reminded me of death. Just being in this room would make anyone want to cry. Liam put his arm around me and tried to comfort me. The doctor stopped at a freezer and opened it.

It was Teddy. Lifeless, cold, frozen Teddy. I started sobbing even more. He wasn't his happy self. He was dead. Liam hugged me as I cried. "We'll put him in a box and send him home with you if you want to bury him." The doctor said. I nodded. "Sarah, why don't you go to the car while we get Teddy in the box?" Liam smiled. I walked to the car crying.

Liam's POV

"What's her deal?" The doctor asked as we got a box from a shelf. "That dog means a lot to her, she has a heart. Unlike some people." I said. "She must be a handful." The doctor sighed, ignoring my insult. "Well, she just has a rough background, that's it." I said as we put poor Teddy in the box. "She seems like a pain in the butt to me." The doctor said. "I'll have you no she is wonderful. And you sir, need to take your happy pills." I said as I grabbed the box and left.

I gently put the box in the back seat and started driving. Sarah sat in the passengers seat crying. "You can stay with me all day, we can watch Disney movies. Okay?" I asked. She looked at me and nodded.

We got home and told all the boys what happened. They hugged Sarah and frowned. They really liked Teddy too. "So, I guess were gonna have a little funeral?" Harry asked. I nodded. We went to the backyard and I dug a hole. The boys surrounded Sarah as she cried. It was cold and cloudy. Perfect weather for a funeral.

"I'll be the first to talk. Teddy was a good dog. He was adorable, and funny. And very hyper. And it was so wonderful how he got to meet his long lost best friend again, Sarah." I said. I said some more and let the boys talk. "Even though he liked to eat my food, I still loved him." Niall said. We laughed a little. But no crack out of Sarah. Zayn spoke about how Teddy was a good friend. And Harry said he was fun to be stupid with. Louis said the same thing. "Sarah, do you want to say something?" I asked. She nodded.

"Teddy is everything to me. I love him, a lot. I thought I lost him, and that I'd never see him again. But I did." Her voice cracked as she cried a little. She looked broken. No light in her beautiful green eyes. Just sadness. "At least I know I got to see him again, even if it was only for a couple months. And at least I know he remembered me, and loved me. Bye Teddy."She said. We all clapped.

I took the box and put it in the hole. "I'll miss you." Sarah said. We all hugged her. I piled up the dirt on the box and we stood there in silence.

Sarah's POV

We stood there, saying nothing. It started to sprinkle. "Let's go inside." Liam hugged me. I barely nodded. I stared at Teddy's grave for a while until Liam carried me in.

Harry ran up to me and hugged me tight. Then Niall, Zayn, Louis, and Liam. "Thanks guys." I made a weak smile. "Let's watch Toy Story!" Louis said. We all snuggled up on the couch. I was inbetween Liam and Niall.

I can't concentrate on the movie. I keep thinking about Teddy. I started crying a little, Liam pulled me into his chest. I fell asleep not long after that.

"Sarah, it's 8:30. Do you want me to drive you home?" Liam woke me up. I was on the couch and all the boys were gone. I really don't want to go home. But I have to. I nodded. Call me if your upset. And off you need me to pick you up, I will." Liam said. "Okay." I said. He looked me in the eye. "It'll get better. I promise." I smiled.

"WAIT SARAH DONT LEAVE!!!" Zayn yelled as all the boys ran down the stairs. They all hugged me and said strange yet funny things to cheer me up. I giggled a little. "Aw there's that smile." Niall said. I blushed. "Bye love, it will be okay!" Harry said. "Thanks, you guys are so nice. Wait the concert!!!" I gasped. "Don't worry,its next week." Louis said. "Good, bye." I said as me and Liam left.

Liam dropped me off and I walked in the house. "YOUVE BEEN GONE ALL DAY....."  Hurlbutt started. "And you've been sleeping all day." I said. "Excuse me?" She said. "I'm just saying that you havnt been as active lately and your getting kinda-" I stopped talking. "Getting kinda what? Fat!! Well atleast I'm not a scrawny stick like you!!!" She threw a phone at my head.

"I did all my chores, so I went grocery shopping." I said. "Just go to your room you worthless twit." Hurlbutt growled.

I got in bed and cried. Hes gone, forever.

You know how I said these chapters wouldn't be depressing?

I lied.

Sorry I forgot about Teddy so I had to do this.

But hey it will get better swearsies.
