My eyes slowly opened to see an empty hospital room, well it was full of supplies and furniture, there was just no people. But there was a whole lot of flowers and balloons, along with cards and even stuffed bears.
Cautiously, I looked at myself and my eyes widened, I was in a hospital bed, with tubes and wires all over me. Not to mention a small wrap on my leg.
"Oh good, you've finally decided to wake up," a nurse with dark skin and dark hair smiled as she walked in the room. "That was quite an accident you were in."
Memories flooded back, causing me to begin shaking and breathing heavily. "Woah, calm down there sweetheart. Everything's fine now," she gently took my arms and held me down. My breathing slowly went back to normal after my shaking stopped.
"Where's Liam? And my sisters?"
"Your sisters are fine, just a few scrapes. Liam, however, lost a lot of blood. His arm is in a cast but he's still asleep. You've been sleeping for two days," she replied while she checked my blood pressure and made sure I was still doing alright.
"What about me?" I asked. "Your ankle is broken, luckily it wasn't the same foot as the last one you injured," she looked at me as if she was warning me not to injure either of my feet again.
"And the rest is minor, surprisingly. Sarah, we've been looking at your record and this is the tenth time you've visited the hospital with an injury. And they've been pretty bad, too. One injury was another fire, one was when you got glass in your foot, and one was when you were kidnapped! Not including all the others, I think you need to be careful." The nurse frowned.
"Most if it wasn't my fault, it just happened. And I'll be much more safe now that Hurlbutt's dead." Once again my eyes widened, it felt like being hit with a board, the reality that she's dead, and she doesn't have control over me anymore.
"About that," the nurse started. "You have a counselor you have to see when you're out of here. Since all your family is dead and you and your sisters are old enough to live on your own they want to help you figure out where you are going and what you're going to do."
I opened my mouth to speak but she interrupted me, "also, the police need to talk to you about what your mother did to you, your sisters have been sobbing waterfalls and spitting out things like Miss.Hurlbutt beat you, we don't know what happened and you and Liam have to tell us, and be honest."
Sighing, I leaned back into my bed, "Sounds like a lot of stress,"
"That's what happens when you escape a fire that still we don't know the source of, your sisters won't do anything but cry," the nurse finished up checking everything and smiled.
"Your friends have been dying to see you, I'll call them so they can see you."
"Wait, when do I get out of here?" I asked. "Tomorrow, you're a living miracle. After everything that happened, I don't know how you're not in critical condition." She shook her head and left the room.
I rolled my eyes and muttered under my breath, "I'm used to it, that's why."
*********
"Next time you say you have to go, please don't nearly die," Cory sighed as she ran and hugged me as gently as she could, followed by Jewels and Anna. It was one o'clock and the nurse had only called them ten minutes ago.
"You scared us to death," Jewels frowned. "Sorry," I shrugged, "on the bright side, I can get an apartment without having to worry about Hurlbutt."
"We know," Cory half smiled, "it's still sad tonight she shouldn't have shot herself."
Anna nodded and shook her head, "I feel bad for her." The door opened and Mary walked in, followed by Mark and almost everyone that worked with me.
