Chapter 44

Anastasia's POV

"Good morning, Mrs. Grey." Jane greets me, holding a cup of Starbucks. "Thanks for the free unlimited coffee." She thanks me. "No problem, Jane. How's your weekend?" I ask. "Really good, boss lady. My babe took me out for dinner." She gushes. "Boss lady?" I ask, shocked. "Oh, Chase, your assistant? She emailed us for logistics and called you boss lady." She says.

"Oh fuck." I curse. She laughs. "It's good to hear you were able to see your "babe". What does he do?" I ask, going to the whiteboard. "Oh, she's in med school. It's harder for us to see each other but we try to work it out." She says, correcting me. She. Oh my god. "Tell her her girlfriend works hard." I joke. "She knows already, boss lady." She says, winking at me. She sits down with the others.

"I hope you all had a good weekend, for this week will not be a calm one." I say, and they all groan. I smile. "Today, we're meeting some editors. Tomorrow, I will be out for the rest of the afternoon." I say. "Because of what?" Lance asks. "My best friend's getting married. She forced me to ditch work for her." I groan, rolling my eyes. They all laugh.

"Okay, for today. We will start the counter at 0." I say, erasing the numbers beside our names. "Chase told me the manuscripts might come in today or tomorrow, so be wary of that. I'll be talking to some of our writers, and I will pull some of you with me to talk with them. Please make sure you've read what they have written." I start discussing. "Ma'am, you have a meeting with one of our writers in 10 minutes." Lo interrupts me. I look at my watch and see that it's 10 minutes to 10.

"Thank you for reminding me. Also, can someone go to HR and remind them about our intern hunt?" I ask. "I'll do that, boss lady." Nick volunteers, raising his hand. "Please, don't call me boss lady. I'd rather you call me Ma'am or Mrs. Grey." I say, reminding them. "I'm sorry, Mrs. Grey." Nick apologizes. "It's cool. Just don't do it again." I say, smiling. "Okay, now go read. I'll check up on you after my meeting. Gab, come with me." I say, and we all head to our respective places.

I walk inside my office and grab my laptop and the manuscript. "Gab, who is the editor again?" I ask, meeting Gab at the door of my office. "It's Kristin Lane. She's the writer of the Black Mirror with love story book." Gab explains. I nod. "Did you like her work? I need your genuine opinion, okay?" I ask her. "I liked it. It has the balance of really good science fiction and romance. I just wish we knew what happened at the ending." Gab gushes. "I know!" I say, and we enter the conference room.

A girl enters, who looks like she just entered college. "Mrs. Grey, I'm Kristin Lane. I am very honored to meet you." The girl who introduces herself as Kristin says, shaking our hands. "Please, sit down." I say, offering the seat beside me. "Tell me about yourself." I urge. She clears her throat. "I'm Kristin Lane, but I go with Kris. I'm a freshman in college, taking bio. I've been writing since middle school and I took a shot with submitting a draft. I like Star Wars and romance novels." She introduces herself, her voice shaking a little.

"Relax, Kris. We don't bite." Gab jokes, and I laugh softly. "I know you received my email saying I loved it and I will edit it personally, so here we are." I open. "I'm really grateful for your publishing company giving me a chance." Kris thanks me. "No, thank you for choosing us." I say, smiling. I open my laptop. "So, do you have social media?" Gab asks. "I do. I have almost everything. I use my email and twitter the most." Kris answers. We need all PR we can get. Speaking of, we need our own PR.

"Do you use any online blogging or writing sites?" Gab asks. "I use tumblr. I also have an aO3 and wattpad account." She answers. "AO3?" I ask, confused. "Archive of our own, Mrs. Grey. It's a nonprofit sharing platforms of fan fiction and fiction. It's free to use and anyone can upload their writing there." Gab explains to me. "And wattpad?" I ask. "It's the same, Mrs. Grey. Just better interface and more known at the east." Gab explains.
