SIGYN'S POV
Sif and I walked out of the banquet hall and decided to go to the gardens. By the time we got there the tears had stopped and I was calm once again. For some reason Sif confessing his love for Loki triggered me to cry. I had never thought that my best friend and I would ever end up falling in love with the same man.
"We can talk more privately here." Sif spoke up, sitting on one of the benches. I sat down too, and plucked out one of the red roses on my side. I brought it up to my nose and took a deep breath. The smell of it calmed me greatly.
"Where were we?" I asked her, placing the rose on my lap.
"I fell in love with..."
"Loki." I finished for her. "Right. Continue."
"Well," she cleared her throat, "I didn't want to admit it, but then when I saw him getting closer and closer with the Midgardian, I couldn't help but feel jealous. I tried all I could to separate them."
"What did you do?"
"I tried to kill her in Midgard, under the guise of protecting Loki's identity from the Midgardians." She said. "Obviously, that didn't work. When Loki threatened to tell of my affair with Fandraal if I failed to call off my engagement, I kissed him and put him at war with his emotions. I then told Megan about the kiss and told her that Loki loved me, and it was successful because she broke up with him shortly after."
"When I came back to Asgard weren't they still a couple?"
"They were." She said. "You see, they didn't break up for long. They got back together. And of course it drove me mad. That's when Zulfa decided to help. She had seen me kiss Loki, and she offered to help me get rid of Megan if I promised to compensate her once I became the new queen of Asgard. She told me the witch Amora would know what to do."
"Did she tell you about me?"
"Not until later."
"Once you found out about Balder and my enslavement, why did you push through with your plans?" I asked, on the verge of tears once again. "Is your obsession with Loki that much greater than anything else?"
"No. I now see that it was all not worth it." She answered, her voice faltering. "I don't know how, but Thor found out about everything and he called off the engagement the other day.. And since Loki now has you, I'm left with nothing."
We both fell silent as we composed ourselves. She took deep breaths while I took in the scent of the rose once more.
"You know what I think?" I spoke up. "You never really loved any of the brothers. You were only attracted to their strength, their power, their wealth and titles...but not their hearts. You only cared about what they could give you." I paused, waiting for her to say something, but she stayed silent.
"And something else," I continued, laughing,"how could you be so stupid Sif? Didn't you ever wonder why Zulfa and Amora took me away?"
"I never asked..."
"It is because Zulfa fancies Loki." I told her. "She did all that just to make sure Loki didn't have any other woman near him. And if she did all that to me and my baby just to have Loki to herself, what makes you think she'll help you get him? What's so special about you?"
Sif went silent again, the truth slowly dawning upon her.
"Zulfa is loyal to no one." I went on. "She used you to get rid of Megan, she'll get rid of me again, and then you're next in line."
"I don't know why I'm realising this just now." Sif spoke after a long moment. "I can't believe I trusted her..."
"We all make mistakes." I shrugged. "But you know what? You still have time to make things right."
