SIGYN'S POV
Balder slept throughout the whole journey back home. He was tired and hungry, and from the way he looked it was quite obvious that neither Amora nor Zulfa took good care of him. Cuddling him felt like I was practically holding a bag of bones in my arms. I swore to myself that I would never let anyone take him away from me.
When we got back to the palace I went straight to the king and queen. They were both happy to finally meet their grandchild, but queen Frigga openly expressed her concerns about Balder being underweight and told me that I needed to take better care of my son. I couldn't agree more. I needed to protect him from these wicked witches that were making my life a living hell.
Odin informed me that he would hold a welcoming feast for Balder the following day, and it would also serve as an announcement party for my engagement to Loki. I tried to tell him that it probably wouldn't be a good idea to do the latter, but of course, he didn't listen to me and sent me on my way to go find Loki. Just like his sons, he was as stubborn as a mule.
"Sigyn," Zulfa spoke bitterly as we walked down the hall, "you didn't tell me that you're engaged yet again to Loki."
Damn, I cursed under my breath. I had hoped that she wouldn't find out, but obviously she had heard what Odin had said to me.
"Neither did I." I lied.
"Well," she stopped me in her tracks and blocked my way through, "you will do nothing of the sort, do you hear me?" She said. "Don't get married to him. Loki is mine."
"But Zulfa, you heard what the AllFather said--"
"I don't care about what he said!" She snapped at me. The way her eyes squinted when she glared at me reminded me of a pit viper's slit-like pupils. "If you dare try to take Loki away from me I will take Balder away from you." She screeched. "And this time, you will never see him again!"
LOKI'S POV
I sat still on my chair, sobered up but with no strength to move. I silently watched as Aisha noiselessly scurried around my chambers, tidying up my bed. Absent mindedly, I ran my hands through my messy hair as thoughts of Megan rushed through my mind. Even after all the mindless drinking, I still couldn't rid myself of her. I still couldn't bring myself to believe that I'd lost her.
"My prince," Aisha spoke, breaking me out of my train of thought. I looked up at her face and I could tell she was worried about me. "Would you like me yo bring you a cup of tea?" She asked.
I opened my mouth to answer her, but before I could, the door to my chambers swung open and in walked in Zulfa, behind her Sigyn...holding my sleeping son.
Immediately my shaking finally came to a stop after running relentlessly through my hair. With newfound strength I got up from my chair, my cold, empty heart suddenly filled with warmth and love once more as I stared at the little boy in Sigyn's arms.
I tried to speak, but my voice only quivered with emotion as Sigyn stood before me and motioned for me to hold my son. I gently took him from her arms and hugged him to my chest. I bit down on my lip and tried not to burst into tears. It was quite overwhelming as I couldn't believe that I now had my son in my arms.
"What's his name?" I asked in a whisper.
"Balder." Sigyn answered, wiping tears of joy off her face. I could see in her smile that she could barely contain her happiness.
"It's a beautiful name." I nodded, and I finally let the tears I was holding flow freely. Despite my feelings towards her, I stepped forward and pulled Sigyn for a hug. "Thank you." I cried, and gave her cheek a heartfelt kiss.
