LOKI'S POV
I didn't know what to feel now that I had Sigyn right before me. After all those years of desperation and searching for her, wondering why she had decided to leave me without an explanation, I had finally resigned myself to the fact that I had lost her for good. But now that I had finally moved on and started to make something of myself, she suddenly reappears again. Just what was she playing at? Why was she toying with me, with my feelings? I was not amused. "So it's true, you're really here. You're back." I hissed at her, anger boiling inside me.
"Yes." She nodded, blinking away the tears in her eyes.
"I have so many questions..."
"I know," She said, "and I'm prepared to answer all of them, my love."
"My love?" I laughed bitterly. "You dared to leave me right before our wedding and you have the nerve to say you love me? Are you being serious right now?!" I found myself yelling.
"Don't be so hard on her dear." Said Mother.
"Mother, please don't interfere." I snapped, turning to look at her and Odin. "Please leave me alone with her."
"Let's go, my queen." Odin spoke up, taking her by the hand and leading her out of the throne room. Thor followed behind them, but I stopped him.
"Don't go, brother." I said. "I need you here."
"Sure." He said with a nod.
"Thank you." I said, turning back to look at Sigyn. "Now, will you please explain to me and my brother why you decided to leave? You just left without a trace!"
Sigyn closed her eyes and took a deep breath, seemingly to calm herself and gather her thoughts, then said: "I'm so sorry..."
"Sorry about what?"
"About everything." She said. "I ran away because I got scared."
"Scared of what?"
"I was scared that I wasn't going to make you happy."
"What made you think that I wasn't going to be happy with you?" I asked her. "I was already happy! Everything was fine...until you decided to ruin everything!"
"I'm so sorry..."
"Stop saying you're sorry, dammit!" I shouted again, getting more and more annoyed by the minute. "Being sorry isn't going to fix anything, is it?"
"No it's not." She shook her head, with tears running down her face.
"Why did you come back?" Thor asked.
"I came to make things right." She answered, her eyes gleaming with determination. "Loki," she took my hand, "I want us to get back together and become the family we were meant to be."
"Clearly you've lost your mind, Sigyn." I scoffed, and just then the doors to the throne room opened and Megan walked in. She looked exhausted, her body slouched and her arms wrapped around her body as if she were cold. As she got closer I could see that her eyes were red and swollen. It was obvious that she had been crying.
"I need to have a word with you. I was told I would find you here." She said to me, then proceeded to eye Sigyn with much distaste. I wondered if the two ladies had already crossed paths with each other. And from the looks of it, it seemed they had.
"I'm glad you're here." I said to Megan as I took her hand and pulled her to my side. "That way, I could say this in front of Sigyn, that you are the love of my life. Only you and no one else. You are irreplaceable, my darling."
"Do you mean that?" Megan spoke almost in a whisper, her eyes tearing up afresh.
"Yes, I do." I assured her with a smile, then turned to Sigyn. "So you see Sigyn, the family you wish to have with me can't possibly happen. I already moved on and i'm perfectly happy and content having Megan by my side."
"But Loki--" Sigyn choked.
"But nothing!" I cut her short. "It is better that you accept it now, because your being here changes nothing. I'm in love with Megan and someday I will marry her and she will be my queen."
"You're mistaken." Sigyn insisted. "You can't get rid of me like that, Loki. Not when we are bound forever."
"Stop talking nonsense, will you? Nothing binds us." I sneered at her, and that's when she finally dropped the bomb on all of us:
"You and I have a child together, Loki. A son!"
MEGAN'S POV
My whole body froze when Sigyn shouted those words: "You and I have a child together, Loki. A son!"
I could barely breathe. Thor looked just as shocked as I was, his jaw dropped.
He had a son. With Sigyn.
I looked up at Loki's face, and saw that he looked quite conflicted. He didn't know what to say or how to react. He went pale - paler than usual - and his narrowed eyes grew dark. Then finally I saw a tear run down his cheek.
"A child?" He breathed out. "You and I...but..."
"Loki..."
"Why didn't you tell me?" His voice cracked with emotion. "Why did you wait till now to tell me we have a son? You could have come back to me immediately you found out you were pregnant!" He exclaimed.
"I wanted to, but I was embarrassed." Said Sigyn.
"Embarrassed? Embarrassed by what?" Loki spoke angrily. "Don't tell me you were ashamed of our child!"
"No, I wasn't! I just didn't know how to approach you, Loki." Sigyn defended herself. "I figured you wouldn't want to see me again after leaving you the way I did." She explained.
Meanwhile I watched them in silence, not believing what was happening. This entire exchange between them seemed so surreal. I was having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that Loki had a child with another woman. And not just any woman, but a goddess. A real goddess!
I was clearly no match for her. And there was no way that I could compete with her, not when she even had a child to boot. A son, who was going to be the heir of Asgard. And there I was, with nothing to offer.
It was clear to me right there and then that there was no place for me in Asgard. I had no business coming in between two lovers whose flames of passion from the past hadn't entirely died out and had a child to raise.
It was time for me to leave.
Loki was too engrossed in his fight with Sigyn that neither of them saw me run out. It was only Thor that came rushing after me.
"Lady Megan, Where are you going?" He asked me as soon as he caught up with me in the hallways.
"I'm going back home, Thor." I told him. "My time here is up. I have no place here."
"Don't say that, please."
"Oh, but it's true." I said, feeling more tears coming on. "Loki has Sigyn now, and they have a son together. I can't come in between that. I can't fight it."
"Megan..."
"That child deserves to grow with both his parents at his side. I can't take that away from him."
"Please--"
"No, Thor. Please be quiet. You can't convince me to stay."
"I'm so sorry for all that is happening." He said resignedly. "I really wish that there was some way I could help you."
"It's not your fault, dear." I smiled weakly. "Could you please help me gather my friends and take us to Heimdall?"
"Are you sure about what you want to do? Do you really want to leave Asgard?"
"Yes, Thor." I nodded. I had never been more sure of anything else in my life. "I want to leave now."
