Cas stood outside the hotel door as he listened to the impala drive away into the distance. He knew that Emily was asleep inside. Dean had told him. he also told him that if anything happened to her he would kill him. Cas smiled. She had that effect in people. Ever since God first created her, she could make anyone fall for her.
Cas reached for the knob and turned it easily. He pushed it open and walked in quietly. All the lights were off but he didn’t need them to see. He closed the door silently behind him and turned his back to it. He saw the shape of the bed she was laying on in the dark. He heard her soft breathing. He smiled and felt at home. He has watched over her ever since she fell. He watched her grow as a human. But he never expected Lucifer to rise. He never believed his brothers when they told him what she would become. That she would become Lucifer’s right hand man in the apocalypse. He yearned to prove them wrong.
He moved softly without making a noise and sat down on the bed beside where Emily was sleeping. He watched her chest rise and fall. He listened to her hypnotic breathing. It was slow and vulnerable. He wanted to reach out and touch her. But he restrained himself. He would be lucky if the brothers got back before she woke. He would be lucky if she never met him.
But he heard her breathing start to shorten. He knew she was surfacing back to consciousness. He stood and stepped back. He heard and saw her figure turn on the bed and then her breathing became full of life. She coughed and he saw her hand move across her face.
“Dean?” She asked a little scared into the dark.
Cas realized that she couldn’t see, but she must sense someone. “It is Castiel.” He tried to make his voice seem welcoming and nice but he wasn’t sure if he succeeded.
She sighed deeply. “They dropped me off here without even saying goodbye.” She sounded strung out and somewhat angry.
“They will be back.” Cas said without any doubt of Sam and Dean’s victory. He had seen them conquer way worse situations.
“That isn’t the point.” She took a deep breath. Then she paused. “I think it is creepy that we are sitting here in the dark and I have never seen your face. Not really a great way to be introduced.”
“I was at the diner.” He spoke without any emotion.
She was silent again. “The black wings.”
Cas nodded but then realized again that she couldn’t see. “Yes. I was just checking up on the three of you. I was impressed that you could see my wings. Although I think that as your powers grow and change you may be able to see my true form.”
“True form? Your angel form?” She was trying to piece together who he was and he felt almost flattered, if he could.
“I am using this body as a vessel.” Cas moved slowly and sat in a chair so that he could still see her but he could relax his muscles.
She nodded and sat up. She looked down at her hands. “Why the darkness?”
Because he thought that if he looked into her eyes he would lose it. But he didn’t say that. He tried to think of something to say. But as he was thinking he forgot to watch her. She made her way to the lightswitch and flicked it on. Cas squinted a second and then turned to look at Emily.
