Cas woke up with a sore feeling on the side of his face. He sat up and opened his eyes to Bobby’s basement. He looked down at the couch he slept on in a daze. He rubbed his face and knew it was the coarse pillow that made his face ache. He yawned and stretched his arms out over his head as he stood and looked himself over. His trenchcoat was a little wrinkly and he made a mental note to ask Bobby if he had an iron later.

Hearing the sound of gunfire from upstairs he immediately looked over the safe room Emily slept in. He had no idea what time it was but he feared for what the guns meant. He knew they were training but he also knew that anything could happen and demons could be here. He noticed the door was slightly ajar so he pushed it open without stepping inside. He felt at ease when he saw Emily asleep on her bunk against the wall to the left. But he was surprised to see Dean asleep on the bunk on the far wall that used to have weapons laid out on it.

Maybe something happened last night and Dean needed to keep a better eye on her. For now Cas turned on his heel and walked up the stairs to see what the gunshots were. He was scared for himself, but more for Emily, Dean, Sam and Bobby. If it was a demon, Cas would kill it. He wouldn’t even hesitate. But as he reached the top of the stairs he heard Bobby’s short chuckle and Sam’s slight snort. Cas smiled and turned to walk through the living room and out into the beautiful morning air. He judged it was about eight thirty.

Sam and Bobby were standing a couple yards from a cinderblock wall that had cans of beer and soda sitting on top of it. Cas noticed the pistols in eachother’s hands and wondered why they would start training if Emily was still asleep. He walked down the porch stairs lightly and made his way casually over to stand with the two of them.

Sam noticed him and turned with a welcoming smile. “Good morning, Cas. I am surprised you stayed the night. I was expecting you to be off first chance you had.”

Cas shrugged and looked over to see some of the cans knocked back. “My job with Emily isn’t finished yet. I fear the worst hasn’t come yet.”

“Aren’t you a ball of sunshine in the morning.” Bobby muttered. “Where is Emily anyway? And Dean?”

“They are still resting.” Cas noted looking back to Sam. “Why are you shooting already?”

Sam shrugged and looked down at the gun in his hands. “Just hanging out with Bobby and going over what we need to tell Emily.”

“I don’t think that is nessecary. Dean will be the one training her.” Cas stated without hesitation.

“What? Why just Dean?” Sam asked a little offended.

“Because he is her chosen protector.” Cas looked over at Bobby. “It is in one of your little books. If she turns to Lucifer’s side, that is the final strike to heaven and the angels. Hell will literally break loose and humankind will be exterminated. Dean and Emily were placed on the earth at the same time, near the same location for a reason. They are destined to either end the apocalypse, or bring it. He is the one to watch over her. She was placed with him and not born on the same day as anyone else in the same place at the same time.” Cas sighed. “What happens to Emily, is in Dean’s hands.”

“We are a family.” Sam refused to give in. “And if she needs help, we all pitch in.”

Cas shook his head. “Chuck has predicted something that I can not possibly tell anyone. But it is important that Dean and Emily bond and get close to each other.” He looked at the ground to deflect Sam’s puppy dog look. “It is vital that they get close enough to where one would give their life for the other.”
