“Do you ever wonder what life would be like if you were invisible?” Emily asked as she stared out her window into the darkness.

Dean glanced over at her briefly with a raised eyebrow before keeping his eyes on the luminous road ahead. “No. Why?”

He heard her soft sigh. “Just trying to make conversation.” She chuckled with a pause. “When I was younger I used to be the odd kid on the playground. At recess there was this group of kids that I always wanted to hang out with, but they called me names. I used to hang out near them in the shadows and pretend I was playing with them.” She paused but continued with a clear voice. “They used to play this game where they were superheroes. And I convinced myself that my power was invisibility and that’s why they wouldn’t play with me. They couldn’t see me.”

Dean didn’t know what to say. But he hated bullies more than monsters. “If I was there-“

“That’s it.” She whispered. “Stop the car.”

“What?” But Dean slowly pulled the impala to the side of the road. He turned his attention to her and physically turned his body to face her.

She was pale and her eyes were golden. She looked at him in fear. “I just saw that memory. It flashed to me.” Her eyes were blue with the bat of her eyelids. But her expression was still the same. “Lucifer is going to make me feel invisible again. He is going to isolate you from me and push me to where I imagine I am on the outside.”

“Then he will come in with a heavenly good-toned talk to sweep you off your feet.” Dean muttered and shook his head. “That bastard.”

“Promise me something here and now.” Emily spoke slow and serious.

Dean looked into her eyes to see her studying him. but her fear had somehow melted and she looked almost calm. He thought he had never seen someone look more beautiful. “What?” But he knew that whatever she requested he would accept.

Her hand fell softly on his that was sitting on the edge of his seat. He felt her hand envelop his and his heart skipped. She smiled softly at his touch. “If I ever turn against you, kill me.”

Dean wasn’t expecting such a blunt remark and it caught him off guard. “No way-“ He started feeling a little angry.

“Dean.” She looked almost pained for a second before she swallowed it. “You are a good person. And I know that you think I won’t go evil. I wish with every fiber of my being that I don’t go evil. But right now I am sane. And I cant promise that in the future I wont. Because I don’t know. But I need to know, right now, that if I do go bad, you will stop me.”

Dean just stared at her and realized that she wasn’t just his partner in the job. She was something special to him. somewhere deep inside he knew that he would never be able to stop her. He would give his life for her. He would go back to the depths of hell so that she could breathe another second. But as he looked into her eyes he could only do one thing, lie.

“Okay.” His voice shook a little and he gave her a weak smile. “But it won’t get to that.”

She shrugged and took her hand back off of his. She turned and opened the impala door. “I need some fresh air. We have been driving too long.” As she stood he heard her mumble, “I don’t know how you to do it.”
