“It has been six hours.” Sam ran his hand through his hair as he sat on the edge of his hotel bed. “Where is she? We are so behind schedule.”
Dean was pacing the room. “I am going to go look for her. You stay here and just do some research while you have the time.” He opened the door and slammed it shut behind him. He started to walk toward the stairs. Rage was bubbling in him. She had just split and left for hours. He was worried something happened and he hated being worried. He stormed down the stairs and started toward the office.
I felt blood in my mouth as I opened my eyes. I heard cars and I panicked. I sat up quickly and felt pounding in my head. I reached and held my head as I took some deep breaths. I looked around and saw I was on the side of some road. I stood slowly and felt sharp pains in my arm. I looked it over to see dirt rubbed all over my bandage. I swore under my breath. I sighed and let my hands fall to my side. I looked around and saw the bar to my left. Then I saw that the hotel was to my right. I had no idea what happened last night. I remember going to the bar and sitting down but after that I was blanking.
I started toward the hotel. I felt tingly all over and I was worried that Dean and Sam skipped town. Maybe I would be lucky and they were still asleep. I couldn’t believe I blacked out in the middle of nowhere on the side of a road. I have never drank that much. But maybe it was some type of shock or something with all that was happening. I just didn’t want to piss of Dean or Sam. Not the first day I was with them.
Then I tasted blood in my mouth again and I stopped walking. I looked down at my chest to see a large gash. I felt my breath catch and my eyes widen. The sharp pain in my arm came again and I le tout a groan. I was covered in blood nad dirt. I heard a couple horns go off as cars passed me.
I looked up toward the hotel and started to run to it. I felt panic run through me. I felt my chest start to burn like it was on fire. My legs soon took over and I didn’t even realize I was sprinting. When I got closer to the hotel I snuck behind the office to make sure no one saw me. I didn’t need them calling the police or taking me to the hospital. I had to find Dean and Sam.
I was walking around the back when a man was standing in my way. He grinned toward me and stook motionless. I stopped and felt like something was wrong. Then a dark shadow cloud formed around him and his eyes changed to pure black. He was a demon.
“So you are a seer.” He tilted his head toward me. “I would’ve finished killing you last night but I had to make sure.” Then I realized that he was the man who worked the office. The demon had possessed that poor guy.
I held my ground. “Why wouldn’t you have killed me?”
He shook his head with a grin. “Lucifer wouldn’t have been happy with me if I would’ve killed you. You are one of his treasures.”
“What?” I asked almost with horror.
“You don’t even know. How adorable.” He advanced on me. “But you are a bad little girl. Teaming up with those rotten Winchesters.” He grinned and took another step toward me. “I will just have to drag you down to hell myself.”
I glared him down and started to get angry at what he was saying. “Bite me.” I growled and clenched my teeth.
He looked amused. “Bold words. You are so lucky that I cant tear you limb from limb right now.”
“Go to hell.” I muttered and ran at him.
He braced himself as I punched him square in the face. My hand cracked and I screamed in pure pain. Whatever had helped me punch Dean and Sam wasn’t with me now. I retracted my hand and held it by my side. Tears ran down my face but I stared at him with as much anger as I could muster.
He was about to grab me when his eyes widened and his mouth opened in anguish. Bright lights flew from his eyes and mouth and his skin started to darken with veins. He fell to his knees slowly and then fell forward on his chest. I moved to the left and watched his face smack off the pavement. I looked up and saw Dean standing a couple feet away with an older looking pistol in his hands.
I stared at him as my chest and hand throbbed. I felt blood pour down my chin. “Dean, I am really scared.”
He came toward me with pure concern on his face. He didn’t even pause as he took my in his arms and hugged me. it felt nice and I let out a deep breath. “Did that son of a bitch hurt you?” He asked holding back anger.
I shook my head and leaned against him. “I am fine. But I think that I am not going to leave your sight for a while. No more late night walks.”
Dean pulled back and stared into my eyes steadily. “What did he say to you? What did he want?”
I just stared back at him. If I told him that I was the eyes of Lucifer they might kill me. and I knew I wasn’t evil. I could handle myself. I couldn’t have them kill me. So I lied. “I don’t know. He just attacked me and I thought I was dead until you showed up.”
Dean nodded slowly and looked me over. “You are really beat up. I think we should get you to the hosp-“
“No. I will be fine. The next time I go into a hospital it will be because of a job.” I felt a bitter part of me dread injury. And if I went there they would make a big deal of it and I would havepain killers and I just didn’t want that.
He looked into my eyes for a minute. “Then we will just fix you up and hit the road.”
I nodded and walked around him toward the hotel. “Let’s get a move on.” I just didn’t want to dwell on what I just found out. I didn’t want to think anymore on the subject of me being the eyes of satan. I wanted to move on and forget it. I wasn’t that person.
He walked beside me keeping pace easily. “Where did you go, on your walk?”
“Just to the bar back there. I just wanted to celebrate my leaving behind my old stale life. Stumbled home and ran into a demon. Really sobers a person up.” I shook my head slightly and ran my good hand through my hair. “Thank you. For coming to the rescue back there.”
His arm slightly brushed against mine. “Don’t mention it. But we are going to have to keep a better eye on you.”
I smirked and looked down at my chest. It wasn’t bleeding and I could see the blood drying on my skin. “I can take care of myself for the most part. What I don’t understand is why you two are going through all the trouble.” In my head I thought ‘because I am a worker of satan’ but I knew they didn’t know that.
“We can’t just leave you with these new powers. We are going to take you to this job because we don’t really have a choice. Then we are going to stop at Bobby’s and let him try to see what is going on with you. From there, your free will is all you have.” Dean paused. “And maybe because I see a lot of me in you. From when I was still gung ho about this job. And that makes me more gung ho about it now.”
I looked over at him as we walked along in the gravel. His face was slightly hidden in the dark but there was almost a boyish grin on his face. His brilliant green eyes flashed at me and I felt warm in my gut. I smiled back and then looked ahead as we were nearer to the hotel.
“I am glad. I just want you to know that no matter what happens to me, I enjoy it here. This is the first time in my life that I have a meaning to me. I have a purpose. I cant imagine living another day going to work and just going through the motions. I would rather save lives, kill things, and die young than live a long slow life that was really killing me with each passing day.” I took a long breath. “God, my arm is throbbing.”
“Welcome to my life.” He stepped close to me and nudged me with his arm. “It is a hell of a ride.”
