He started to walk toward the three of them who were now pushing eachother playfully and grabbing for control of a football Bobby probably had stashed away from their own childhood. He loved all three of the goofs in front of him. He wanted to keep this memory just like Emily will. He wanted this to be the moment when he understood what he was fighting for. And why Michael will never take charge of him. Why Sam will never let Lucifer in and why Emily will never turn against them.

“Hurry up slow poke!” Emily called to him over her shoulder. “I want to beat these fools!”

Dean heard Sam’s soft chuckle and it caused him to pick up his pace and smile wider. He watched Cas grab the football and make a run for it. His trenchcoat flew behind him and Dean knew that was the first time he saw Cas grin with real excitement behind it. Emily was making him human and Dean liked it. He liked this new Cas. He had enough shit to deserve some real fun.

Dean started in a job after Cas. Cas did a side turn and threw the ball blindly toward who he thought was Sam. But Emily ran, giggling, and intercepted the ball. She tucked into her stomach and ran the opposite way Cas had went. Dean grinned and ran across the yard. He held his hands out for a pass. When Emily caught his eyes he saw Sam catching up to her. She stopped and threw the ball as hard as she could toward him. Just as the ball reached his finger tips he felt something hit his side sending him falling into the mud covered ground. He looked up to see Cas standing over him. The ball was laying past them.

Cas grinned and saluted Dean before running after the ball like a young kid. Emily screamed at Dean to get up and laughed. Dean looked over to see Sam running straight toward where their touchdown field seemed to be. He stood and ran for Cas as hard as he could. He felt the air burn his lungs. He watched Cas start to stumble and he threw the ball to Sam.

Sam caught it and Dean changed directions. But he was amazed to see Emily pass him and run full speed after Sam. Dean saw that Sam was going to pass the ball so he went for Cas. His lungs were on fire as he caught up to Cas and ran between the two. He watched in amazement as Emily grabbed the back of Sam’s coat and jumped on his back. Sam ran a couple feet before he fell to his knees and collapsed on the ground. Emily laughed as she grabbed the football and stood to start for our touchdown area. But Sam reached around and grabbed ahold of her leg. They both chuckled out of breath as they knew they were stuck.

Emily’s eyes caught mine and she winked at me as she tossed the ball. But it was short of me. I turned to see Cas catch it barely and run away from me. I smiled and ran after him. I didn’t catch him before he was on the other side of the house. He turned and with a smile laughed.

“I DID IT!” He exclaimed. “I made a score!”

Dean nodded with a warm smile. “You sure did.”

He tossed the ball to Dean. “She sure is special.” Cas whispered as he walked past Dean back toward Emily and Sam.

Dean nodded to himself and turned to follow Cas. They found Emily and Sam still on the ground. They were laying on their backs with their arms touching. Dean saw that they were mud covered and he saw the hand prints on each other. Cas jumped up and gushed to Sam about how he got a score and how they were winning.

Sam sat up and held Emily stand. Emily came over to Dean and play punched his shoulder. “You let him score?” She exclaimed with a wink. “Man I thought you were good at this game.”

He wanted to kiss her in that moment. But Sam came up beside him and slung an arm over Dean. Emily looked between them with a smile. Then she looked down at Dean’s jeacket that she had been wearing. It was covered in mud.

“Don’t worry about it. We will do a laundry load tonight.” Dean muttered and put his arm around his brother. “I should say Sam will be.”

“Hey!” Sam shoved Dean a bit with a small laugh. “Just cause I am the small brother-“

“You two are so adorable.” Emily sighed.

They both felt their faces redden and they looked at her. She gave them both a soft wink and she shivered. “Well, this mud and the cold is not good for anyone’s health. I think we should call it quits for the night. If you guys would put your clothes in a basket, I will do the laundry.” Then she turned and walked toward the house.

Cas walked quickly to catch up then walked beside her and told her how fast he ran and how he outran Dean. Dean turned and nudged Sam’s side. Sam looked down at his older brother and felt the bond that had somehow seemed to diminish over the years.

“I love you, Dean.” Sam whispered.

Dean saw the smaller Sam and Dean hugging on that bed in that crummy hotel room all those years ago. He pulled Sam into a hug and held him close to him. “I love you too, Sammy.”
