Gabriel watched from afar as Dean drove the impala into the driveway of his childhood home. Ever since Emily had popped in on him he watched her carefully. When Bobby died, Gabriel was the one who grounded his spirit to Earth. Now Gabriel was going to give Dean what he needed to save Emily and the world.
Gabriel always loved Emily. She was there the day he was created, as she was all the angels. She guided him and showed him the ropes of heaven. When there was no more need for an angel of death, she became the Golden One. Her powers outranked all the angels combined. She could have clapped her hands and destroyed the universe. But when the Goldness came to her, she changed so drastically. Gabriel was in awe of her then, just as he had been when she came to him on Earth as a human. But he saw the red start to cloud her vision. Her anger was being triggered and that was what was pulling at her old ways. He knew that was what Lucifer was planning all along. He wanted to revert her back to her Angel of Death days.
But Gabriel wouldn’t let that happen. He loved his life on earth with the humans and he would give his life to keep these people here. He has spent enough time among them to know that no world would be worth anything without these beautifully flawed creatures. So as Dean stepped from his precious car, Gabriel walked from the porch of the home down to meet his old friend.
When Dean’s eyes fell on him he grew rigid and reached behind him to pull the gun from his waist band. But Gabriel held up his hands and Dean paused.
“I am not here to harm you. I am here to give you what you want.” Gabriel had always messed with Dean and Sam, but this time there was no room for charades.
Dean stood his ground and didn’t make any move to draw back his hand. He stared at Gabriel intently. “And what do I want?”
Gabriel winked at Dean with a smirk. “To know the truth about this darling lass you went and fell in love with.” He raised his hands up toward his chest.
Dean was going to ask him why he would help but before he could even open his mouth Gabriel clapped his hands together and vanished. Dean let his arm fall down by his side and just stared at where Gabriel had been. Suddenly it sounded like cars were driving by. He turned toward the once desolate road to see the oldy cars drive past the house. Then he glanced over and saw that his impala wasn’t in the driveway, his father’s old car was there.
“Dean!” Came a young girl’s voice from behind him. Dean turned on his heel to see a young girl, around ten or so, run down the porch of the house and jump onto the yard. She had a childish grin and her cheeks were rosy with exhaustion. Dean cleared his throat when he realized it was young Emily. She had the same exact piercing blue eyes.
She spotted him across the yard and just stared at him. She seemed offset by him. He didn’t know what to do or say, but he remembered how Gabriel’s travels worked. When Dean returned to the present, this would never happen. There was no butterfly affect. Dean was just here to find out what he needed to know. So he gained himself and started for the girl.
When he got close she shrunk back from him a little. She crossed her arms over her chest and looked him over with uncertainty. “I don’t know who you are, but Mr. John doesn’t like people coming on his property.”
“I am an old friend.” Dean gave her the sweetest smile he could muster. He watched her intently and his heart almost ached. She was the sweetest little girl he had ever seen. And to talk to her now, almost hurt him. But at the same time he treasured this conversation.
