Cas was thinking back to the first day he could remember up in heaven. He remembered all the other angels gathered in some circle. Then he could remember the feeling God had given him. God wasn’t there, but they knew he was watching them. Cas had trouble being around the others. They didn’t seem to like him. Thinking on it now, he thinks because they always felt he would betray them. But on that day there was on angel that came to him in kindness. He was afraid at first, because all the other angels didn’t dare come close to her. She was God’s right hand angel. the first created and the most powerful.

Castiel had felt something change in him when he was near her. She stayed with him and told him all about the humans. She trained him and it was her who gave him orders. But there was a bond between them that he knew she felt too. Because she was always close by him. He also remembered the day that she fell. It was empty in heaven. God had turned furious. His precious angel abandoned heaven and all the luxuries he had supplied to her. But she wanted more. She wanted to feel. She had waited many decades to choose the right moment to fall. She knew of the prophecies just as God did. And she knew of the two men who would start and inturn stop the apacolypse. She believed that she would help. She saw something in the humans that not many angels did. She grew to love them. And Cas heard all of this from her. He listened to her talk at great lengths. Even before he met the Winchesters he had an unbelievable trust to them. It was her voice that always shook in his head when he didn’t know what to do.

And seeing her now, an innocent human that needs a crutch just makes his whole world seem shallow. He put his full faith in that angel, and Emily was what she gave heaven up to become. That soft woman who has more problems than Cas could possible ever understand. She was unsure of herself and so weak. She didn’t even know the power that she was gaining from her past life as God’s favorite. And now God was back. Castiel had prayed to him for months and searched the earth long and hard for him. It was Emily’s touch that sent that medallion red hot. God was hiding behind her. He was near her, guiding her. Cas knew know that God was gone. He left when Cas heard the news.

But Cas couldn’t understand why he was running. What was God so scared of? Why was he leaving this all up to humans, and angels and demons? It didn’t makes sense to him. None of this did. His hero was the one person in the world now that seemed to have a tie to God.

Cas sat in deep thought until he heard someone calling his name. it pulled him slowly out of his thoughts and he blinked his eyes once to realize he was sitting at a table facing Sam. He nodded slightly and looked into Sam’s eyes with all the same confusion in his face. He could feel his confusion start to show badly on his face.

“Dean is with Emily. They are going-“ Sam started thinking he had Cas’ attention finally.

“He is gone now.” Cas whispered and looked at Sam hopelessly. “I was so close to him. I could’ve touched him. And now he is gone. It is over.”

Sam stood back and looked down at Cas with worry and doubt. “Who is gone and what is over?”

“God. Humanity. God had latched himself to Emily’s life force. He was literally surrounding her. It was when she came in contact with that medallion that scared him away for good. He was here with us the whole time. Watching over us.” He closed his eyes for a moment before containing himself. “They are going to find out why your father looked after Emily.”

“Our father looked after Emily?” Sam was so out of the loop he felt his head start to ache.

Cas nodded slowly. “He tracked her down after the hospital. Your mother had known about the arrival of an angel. She was told by Zachariah when her family was still in the hunting business. She was to take this young girl under her wing. But there were omplications and your father and mother couldn’t adopt her. So he made sure she stayed close. As I hear, Dean and Emily had some playdates as youngsters. The irony of Bobby giving you the medallion to give your father is pretty great. In fact John never knew of the medallion. Funny how little things just travel around.”

Cas took a deep breath and kept spilling it all to Sam. “Then she moved to a foster family that moved away. It was almost right after your mother was killed. John had forgotten about his promise to watch Emily. She just became a figment of the past. His desire to catch the yellow eyed demon caused Emily to be lost for years. Until the two of you stumbled upon her case. It was really only time before you found her. She is connected to it all. Sooner or later you would have found each other.”

“But why?” Was all Sam said after a moment of silence. “Why Dean? Why a fallen angel? Why Bobby and my dad?”

Cas just shrugged. “Why anything? It is just the way it is. And that is something I am really beginning to learn down here.” Cas looked into Sam’s eyes for some kind of sign. “I can’t take the uncertaintity down here. I feel like I am drowning.”

Sam didn’t know what else to say. He wasn’t sure there was even anything left to say. But he became worried. If this was all linked, how would the end not result in a big tangled mess? Dean and Emily were out there in the open when the entire world is raining down on them. Sam is sitting here with an angel who is out of their mind. Bobby is gone, left a note saying he was going to find help. Sam didn’t think any help would do good. At this point it was up to the four of them. And even if he had to, he was willing to fight the sidelines with Cas.

“I got you.” Sam said simply.

Cas stared at Sam finally realizing that he wasn’t alone anymore. Ever since his guardian dropped out of heaven, he has felt eternally alone. And now he was looking into the eyes of a man who would do anything for him. “Let’s start by researching and pulling strings to find out what exactly the apocalypse entails. From every religion and belief. There has to be a common thing that ties it all together. A special circumstance that brings it all out.”

Sam nodded. He was worried about Dean and Emily but he knew that this was the only way that he could help them for now. “I will get my laptop.”
