Dean sat outside the mental ward and closed his eyes. The young girl had cried the whole time. She said she didn’t do it and that her friend Lucy did it. She said that Lucy had no last name. Dean guessed a ghost possessed her and made her kill her parents but he wasn’t sure. Kids could say anything, especially ax wielding ones. Cas had gone a little while ago to do his angel things. So Dean was sitting here alone about to walk into the town and call Sam for a ride. Cas had zapped him here, but Cas was now nowhere to be seen.
He waited a little while before he called out her name in his head. He had been wondering if it would work. He looked around and sighed when he didn’t see her. He stood from the bench and started the direction of town. He shoved his hands in his suit pants pockets and licked his lips. It was a beautiful day out.
“Fancy running into you here.” Emily’s voice emanated from behind him.
He turned with a wide smile to see her standing there with her hands on her hips. He came up to her and hugged her before she could do anything else. She laughed softly before she hugged him back. “I like this greeting. Can it be out secret handshake?” She joked when he pulled back.
He was about to answer her with another joke when she reached up and kissed his mouth softly. He felt her melt to him and then he felt a sharp pain in his lip. She had bitten his lip. She pulled back and winked at him playfully. He grinned devilishly and started to prowl toward her. She got wideeyed and squealed when he grabbed her in his arms and picked her up.
She set her hands on either side of his face and laughed along with him. He set her down but she lingered near him. He saw her smile alter and he knew immediately that their mission hadn’t gone as pleasant as he planned. He knew that she was so sensitive and he did worry.
“What happened?” He asked trying to keep his temper down. “You aren’t hurt, are you?” He looked over her quick but didn’t see bruising or bleeding.
She shook her head. “I’m not hurt. It was just a little tiring. I wish I didn’t see everything. I need to install a filter.” She hung her head and her hands fell from his face. “But Sam has a lead and I think it is best if we go back to the hotel. I just wanted to kiss you before… before we go up against whatever it is we are dealing with.”
“We have been up against a lot worse.” He reassured her and ran his hands up her arms. “Ready to kick some ass?”
She looke up and grinned with a wink. “Of course.” But there was some worry lingering. “Do I get a gun?”
He chuckled and grabbed her hand. “We will see.”
She shrugged and intertwined her hands in his. “You will give me. I forsee it.” She reached up and kissed his cheek softly.
I sat in on the edge of my bed in the hotel and watched Cas pace. Sam and Dean were in their room getting weapons and talking it all out. Cas wanted me alone for a minute to talk something over. So here I was waiting for him to answer. But he paced nervously. Then he stopped finally and just looked down at me with a tired look.
“Zachariah cornered me again.” He whispered.
I felt rage boil. I stood and looked him over protectively. “Are you okay? Did he lay a finger on you?” I felt myself start to clench my fists.
“No. He didn’t harm me in any way. He just talked. He said that Lucifer has breached the shell of heaven. He is summoning angels to join him. Six have gone to his side.” He looked down and shook his head. “Six.”
“Who?” I asked with rage on the brink of my sanity.
“Belle, Apollo, Christian, Samuel-“ He started with his voice lowering every name he spoke.
“Christian!” I felt like screaming. Christian had been the most loyal angel back in the day. But I guess he was only loyal to the ones he thought was winning the game. “I am going to stop them. I am going to rip them from their wings and toss them down to the pit of hell.”
Cas just stared at me and his eyes widened. “Emily calm down.”
“How can you be calm?!” I asked feeling my body grow hot. “Our friends, the ones that we fought beside, they are choosing a godless paradise at the expense of something God cherishes so kindly. I cant stand here and pretend like everything is okay. The brink of humanity is in the balance, Castiel. I can’t pretend like everything is okay anymore. I can’t hug Dean and try to hush the demons. I can’t breathe.” I stood back and felt my chest start to compress. “Where is Zachariah?”
“I don’t know but you need to calm yourself. You are starting to scare me.” His voice wavered and he looked at me in fright. “Look in the mirror.”
I turned from him and walked into the bathroom. When I flipped the switch I almost screamed. My eyes were blood red. I blinked and wiped my eyelids but nothing changed. My body was still warm and I saw that there were these dark veins starting to pop on my arms and neck. I scratched and felt myself start to panic.
“CAS WHAT IS HAPPENING!” I turned and found him standing in the doorway. “I can’t-I don’t know what is happening!”
He touched my shoulder carefully and then looked at his finger. Then he looked me over before he just stood there and looked at me in curiosity. “I think your temper-“
I let out a short scream and shut my eyes tight. “Leave. I need to be alone.”
“But-“
I breathed hard and screamed again. This time in agony. It felt like the insides of my stomach were churning inside out. I fell onto the floor and tried to turn to a position that lightened my stomach. I felt hands on my shoulders and I could faintly make out Cas’ voice. But then everything started to fade. It was like I was slipping from
