Roads

Pagkatapos akong sermunan ni Jon tungkol sa salitang pag-ibig na hindi niya naman alam ang ibig sabihin ay natanaw ko si Margaery. May katabi siyang isang bata habang kumakain silang dalawa, nakangiti siya at bakas sa mukha na nageenjoy.

Mahina kong siniko si Jon. "Kita mo yon? Yung naka-blue na polo shirt... 9 o'clock." Kita kong nag-angat ng tingin si Jon at hinanap iyong sinasabi ko. "Yeah? What about it?"

"She's my friend. She's pretty, right?"

"She's alright, yeah..."

"I think you should go out with her... Para naman magkaroon ng kaunting tamis yang mapait mong buhay! Puro sakit ng ulo binibigay mo kina Tita Cat and you're not even a teenager anymore."

"You're one to say, huh. Magka-edad lang tayo, Kate. If I'm old, so are you." Sarkastikong sabi ni Jon. "If I want to ask someone out, I will ask them myself I don't need your little meddling hands."

Hindi ko nalang pinansin si Jon at nagpatuloy sa pagkain. "Kailan ka pa member nitong foundation?"

"A little over a year? Sinabi lang ito ni Robb sa akin dahil bored ako ay sinama niya ako. This is actually the foundation's first charity event this year. Quarterly sila kung magdaos ng ganito. I admire Roose because of that."

"This is their company's foundation, right?" Naguguluhan kong tanong. "Is that what he told you?"

"Oo." Tumawa naman si Roose. "That son of a bitch, this is his foundation. He owns a big ass shipping company but he likes to stay below all the success. I think he's a good guy because of that... I think he's good for you, Kate."

"You think so?"

"I know so." Ani Jon at inakbayan ako. "I like Kevinhe's been my friend for as long as you two are. And now that you're with somebody else, I could totally see two different Kates right now."

"What do you mean? Kevin is not good for me?"

"He is good for you in a different far different from Roose." Kumunot ang aking noo dahil sa mga pinagsasabi ni Jon. Hindi ko siya maintindihan. "I have no idea what you're talking about. Please, be more elaborate."

"Napansin ko kasi kanina... Simula ng dumating kayo dito, wala akong kunot ng noo na nakita sa mukha mo. You were all smiles!" Enthusiastic pa ang pagkakasabi ni Jon na para bang may lumalabas na rainbow sa ilong niya at isa akong bata. "But you're only at the tip of the iceberg. Pero kay Kevin? I've seen you two at each other's throat. I mean, you've seen the worst of each other and you know how to deal with it."

"So, what the hell are you saying? Hindi ko talaga maintindihan!" Reklamo ko, halos mapapadyak na ako dahil doon. Wala akong naintidhan sa sinabi ni Jon! "Are you listening to me? What I'm saying is that, you and Kevin has come a long way... You're familiar with all the roads and shortcuts. Pero kay Roose, it's an entirely different route."

"So, are you asking me what route I will take? The old one with the familiar roads or the new one with an entirely different route?"

Ngumisi si Jon at tumayo. Yumuko siya sa aking harap para magka-level ang mga mata namin at hinawakan ako sa balikat. "Figure it out."

Pagkatapos ng breakfast ay mayroong simpleng presentation ang mga bata ng ampunan para sa mga miyembro ng foundation at sa mga volunteers na naroon. Naupo ako sa bandang gitna para doon manuod. Si Roose ay nasa harap katabi si Jon at Robb at iilang pang miyembre ng foundation.
