This feeling of not being alone had intensified. The silence in the forest was pounding and I could almost hear my heartbeat pounding. It was pounding fast, so it meant that I was scared. I hadn't realised I was scared because it was a battle of what should I be scared of?
Suddenly a gently gust of wind blew behind me, making my hair swish. It made the leaves near my boots crinkle and then it was silent again. I looked ahead and could see no one.
"Hello" a soft voice said innocently. I jerked my head around immediately to see a tall boy with dark hair standing close to me. I stepped back and gasped. I then let out a long breath to realise that it wasn't anything odd. Just a boy around my age. What was I expecting anyways? Big foot? A Yeti? The Bogey Man?
Our eye contact didn't break. He seemed so familiar to me. Like I have seen him before somehow. "Hi" my soft whisper broke the silence between us. Even in my boots he stood taller than me by more than a head. He was wearing a long black coat with dark jeans and black shoes. We seemed to be almost matching with our colour choices. I looked back up at him and there was something odd. He seems normal, but something in my mind as telling me to leave. Telling me to walk away. To run away. But I couldn't figure out why. He had this sort of aura surrounding him of mystery that made my heart pace and my skin feel cold inside my jacket. This look in his eyes looks like surprise as he stared at me. His lips parted silently like he was about to say something but no sound came out his mouth.
But that familiarity stung me and I had to ask. "S-sorry but; do I know you?" I asked bringing my shaking voice to a confident tone. He didn't stop looking at me, he didn't even blink once. It made me feel self conscious and I wandered if there was something on my face. He was looking at me curiously and almost frowning his dark brows onto his face changed, his perfect lips parted to a small smile, he must have realised he was staring. He let out a chuckle. "No" he said almost like he had to think about it and looked down to kick a leave. "But you could. I'm Romeo. Like the Montague." He said and I chuckled. So he had good talk...
"I'm Azra." I said looking into his eyes that captivated me. I wish I could say my name as Juliet. "You're new? I haven't seen you around." he said and I nodded looking at the moss covered ground to break the intense eye contact. "Yeah, I just moved yesterday." I mumbled hardly even coherent words but he still seemed to know what I was saying.
"So how are you liking Morgen?" He said and I assumed he meant Morgenstel. I guess this was a common shortening. I chuckled a little as I sighed. "Uh yeah, it's a bit uhm...grey. But it's uhm...suiting. I like it." I said trying not to insult him as I assumed he was born here. He then chuckled which took me by surprise as I didn't intend to be funny. "You don't have to lie. I'm sure to a foreigner it seems like a shiethole. But you'll grow to love it." He said in his raspy voice that caught my attention and I nodded. "I'm technically not a foreigner...I was born here but moved when I was three." I said and smiled a little. He seemed surprised by this and almost upset? He frowned a little and started to chuckle again but nervously. "Sorry, I know it's rude to ask a lady of her age, but may I?" He said. What a gentlemen. I guess chivalry isn't dead after all. "I don't mind, I'm seventeen." I said wondering why it mattered. His face remained a smile but something in his eyes changed. "I thought so.." he said quietly that I could barely hear it. He thought I was seventeen? Or was he talking about something else? "I will see you in class then. Tomorrow that is. I hope." He said like he as nervous and I nodded. There's only one school here so it was obvious I was going to it. He must be the same age as me too. Somehow I felt like tomorrow wouldn't be so bad after all. I was almost looking forward to it. Just then the wind blew and my hair swayed to my other shoulder traveling my collarbone which the wind kissed giving me shivers. Romeo tensed suddenly and took a step back. I could see the tension in his jaw and I frowned a little. "Sorry" He forced. "But I must leave" he said and I nodded. "Yeah me too, my mother will be worried." I lied. My mother wouldn't be worried. She would be angry for sure, but not because she was worried about where I was, it was because it was like I was disobeying her. "Be careful, Azra" he said and frowned a little and I looked behind me to see nothing but trees. Was he frowning at me? I turned back around to be met with the trees and the dimly lit forest. I can't help but reply the way he said my name. Like it wasn't foreign to his lips. I wandered what time it was but I couldn't tell, I just know that it was late as it was dark. I take back the path which I can see had been trodden into.
The face of Romeo accompanied me in my mind as I made my way back to the house. It gave me this sort of humming vibration in my chest, even though it was chilly, my jacket kept the heat giving off my chest. I felt silly and tried to shake off the smile on my face, but I couldn't. It was the first time in such a while that I was smiling in such satisfaction.
