My fingers intertwine with his, I feel the soft smooth marble like skin on the back of his hand. His skin didn't feel human at all. It was too smooth and looked like it held no pores. It's complexion was completely even like he was painted apart from his green veins that were muted underneath this layer.

"Romeo?" I ask and he looks toward me instantly.
"Yes, Azra?"
I bite my lip slightly, hesitant to ask but I'm just too curious about his past.
"What was your first kiss like?" I ask.
Romeo chuckled and his lips pulled into a smooth smile as we kept walking through the fresh green ferns covered in dew.
He rubs his thumb on the back of my hand and clears his throat.
"It was when I was ten I believe."
"Ten?!" I exclaim. "I mean like a proper kiss, not a peck on the cheek."
He nods. "Yep. Ten."
"What? How? Who was it?" I ask all my questions flooding him.
He chuckles. "You're forgetting that in those days it was common to be married off and to expect children when you're fifteen."
"Ah" I had forgotten that times were so different then. "So...who was it?" I ask hesitantly thinking about the long dead medieval girl that lived over 400 years ago, her bones probably scattered and still decomposing.
"It was that vampire. The one that gave me her blood to turn me into what I am now."

Those words sunk in me.
The same vampire that was burned at the stake for suspicions of being a witch. I scoffed at the irony.

"Tell me more about her." I asked and he stops his steps. I still keep my hand in his as I stop next to him.
"Are you sure?" He asks and I nod.

"I didn't realise it at the time, but she was my first kiss. I couldn't remember how it happened but we came across each others path.
A few years later, when I was seventeen I had met her again but she hadn't aged, she looked exactly the same, eighteen forever. Not only did she confess her immortality, she confessed to following me. Keeping an eye on me for all those years. Ever since the kiss she gave me she couldn't let me go. I wasn't scared but sort of felt...grateful. Grateful that someone had paid me any sort of attention. We become each other's secret ears and I spent more time with her than I did my own family and friends.
She stuck with me through my fathers plague and saw my mother go down hells path to insanity. She fell in love with me and wanted me to return the same feelings. I couldn't and felt guilty about it. So I pretended and played her like a fool. I didn't realise I had taken it that far until she gave me that vile of her blood a year later. She wanted us to be together forever and flee this town and my family. We would be immortal and love each other 'Till death do us apart' her words exactly.
I hadn't agreed yet but the next day when I went to meet her at the top of the hill, she was no where to be found. I looked everywhere for her and I couldn't find her. I asked people that knew her at the market and they told me that she had been convicted a witch.
It was too late to do anything, because the next morning when I went to the town square. Crowds of people were chanting and at the stake was in flame a screaming girl who's voice I recognise." His eyes narrow and he frowns. Wincing at the unforgotten memory. "I won't ever forget in all my years to come, the look she gave me as her body burned. I saw her and I'm sure she saw me. She tried to reach out to me but I couldn't do anything. It was too late."

His grip on my hand tightens and I place my other hand on his arm. "Romeo." I say softly to try and bring him away from the dark memory. I wrap my arms around his torso and hug him close to me. "I'm so sorry." I whisper pathetically. Unable to tell him anything else. I can't compare to the darkness that he had carried over the last 400 years.

He chuckled and lifts my chin up.
I frown a little because I don't really feel pity for the girl. Only for Romeo.
"Are you?" He asks.
I shake my head. "Not for her. But for you."
"Why?" He asks he creases his brow.
I chuckle and shake my head. "For a start, she harassed a minor. You were a child and she was an adult. I don't care if people had five kids by the time they were eighteen. This is no excuse. You were ten! Ten years old! And she was eighteen. Not only that, but she had stalked you for all those years. God knows what she could have been up to. She obviously had some psychopathic romance fantasy for a child, and you were going to marry her? Did that thought not cross your mind?" I ask curiously looking up at him.
He shrugs. "Yes, you're right." He says and I triumphantly nod. "But, I have to confess. At the time I was a little distracted and could care less. I was a small, quiet and unsatisfactory. I had barely any friends and my family was so dysfunctional that if my parents hadn't murdered me, I would have done the job myself. So when a hot female pays ultimate attention to me than my own family ever did, I wasn't going to refuse. I wanted to be loved by anyone."

His words felt like they were being burned into my heart.

I tighten my grip around his waist and bury my head into his torso.
"Don't say that again." I mumble sadly into his shirt and he places his hand on my head.
"Say what?"
"That you would end your life." I mutter quietly and grip him tighter feeling like I might have tears show soon.
He chuckles and I feel the vibrations on my cheeks. He softly stroked my head and I look up at him.

His eyes soften and he leans down to plant a kiss on my lips, sealing this moment forever.
