[INT. HOSPITAL ROOM – DAY]
[A patient lies in bed staring at the sky from the glass sliding windows. The patient still feels weak after having the surgery for a tumor removal. In another hospital bed, another patient is unconscious and has a lot of machines attached.]
PATIENT’S RELATIVE: I brought you some clothes. I also have fruits. Do you want to eat some?
PATIENT: Thanks, but I’m not hungry.
PATIENT’S RELATIVE: Alright, I’ll be going home now. Call me when you need something.
PATIENT: I’ll be fine. Go home and rest.
[The patient’s relative leaves the room. Dead silence, except the beeping of the machines coming from the other patient was heard. The patient glances at the unconscious patient and stares at the ceiling then sleeps.]
[Unknown time passed when the patient hears noise. Doctors and nurses were inside the room. Eyes slowly opening, the patient notices the doctors and nurses trying to revive the unconscious patient.]
DOCTOR 1: Vital signs are dropping.
DOCTOR 2: Charge the ICD.
NURSE 1: Yes, doctor.
DOCTOR 1: I can’t feel a pulse.
NURSE 1: Charging at 200 joules.
DOCTOR 2: Stand back! Clear!
DOCTOR 1: No improvement.
DOCTOR 2: Another! 300 joules this time!
NURSE 1: 300 joules! Charging!
DOCTOR 2: Clear!
NURSE 2: Doctor, it’s no use! We’re losing the patient!
[After a few minutes later, everyone fell quiet. Only the continuous flat line sound from the machine echoes through the room.]
DOCTOR 2: Doctor…?
DOCTOR 1: Time of death, 9:31 PM.
DOCTOR 2: Inform the patient’s relatives.
NURSE 2: Yes, doctor.
[The machines were turned off and the oxygen tube was detached from the dead patient. The doctors slowly walked out of the room as the nurse covered the dead patient with the white sheet.]
[After the nurse closed the door, the room was silent once again. This time, it felt colder. The patient looked at the white sheet covering the dead corpse.]
PATIENT: So… you’re dead? You know, I remember when you were still conscious. You always shared stories about your life. Each day, you got worse. And each day, those stories got fewer. Until you stopped entirely and only those machines kept you alive. I started sharing my own life stories to you. It was lonely but not so. Because I knew… you were still there listening, I guess. Even though you’re unconscious, I still believed you were. But that’s not the case now, right? Hey… it’s much lonelier now, being alone. Good night, friend. Sleep peacefully.
