"We met a long time ago- before Vine, before YouTube, before he became this huge, controversial internet superstar. We were friends in school I suppose you could say, we knew of each other and had the same friends. He seemed sweet, but he was popular so could sometimes be a jerk. He messed around with multiple girls at the same time, had never really had a serious girlfriend, so I didn't ever think of him like that." I felt myself choke up. "Hey...go on." Rocky said. "I fell head over heels for him when we got paired together for a project..." She held my hand tightly, urging me to continue. "What we had, I've never felt like that before- he rocked my world. His smile lit up a room and he had such a positive outlook on life and was so appreciative of everything he had. He had a beautiful soul, he didn't have a bad bone in his body. I loved him and I know my life will never be complete without him in it." I finished and cried a sob of relief. "That's beautiful." She said, wiping the tears off my cheeks. "If you can read that tomorrow without completely breaking down, if you can hold it together and just cry a little- that'll touch everyone's hearts. I think if he saw it, he'd be so proud of you, proud of what you two had."
Jake passed away in a car accident 2 weeks ago and tomorrow was his funeral. I wanted to do a speech, I wanted it to be simplistic yet perfect. I loved Jake, every nerve in my body loved everything about him.
The next day, I got up and drank a black coffee. I straightened my hair and did very minimal makeup. My outfit was a black dress, black tights and black heels. I had the necklace he'd got me on as well as one of his watches. I smoothed my dress down in front of the mirror and lifted the picture of him off of it. I pressed my lips against it. "I hope I'm doing you proud." I whispered. I stuck it back on and walked out of my room.
I did my speech and only had a few tears, I was desperately holding it together. We went outside to let off balloons- it was such a beautiful day (weather wise). My engagement ring sparkled as the sun bounced off it. I felt so lucky to have met Jake and shared the times we did.
We went to the wake, it was at a small venue locally to us. I was getting a drink, when Logan came over. We didn't speak, we just hugged. He ordered his drink and then looked at me. "You're holding it together really well." He said, he looked heartbroken and exhausted. "Trust me it's hard." I said as my eyes glossed over. He held my hand tightly. "Jake would want this to be a celebration, so lets do just that." He smiled, I smiled back and we went to join everyone else.
