"Odd of you to want to meet me at a time like this, princess. Have you fallen for my charm too?"
Sasuke scowled disapprovingly at Naruto as the Uzumaki inconspicuously approached him, hands behind his back as he beamed cheekily at the Uchiha.
"Honestly, if I didn't need your help, I wouldn't have bothered asking you," simmered Sasuke, clenching his fists as he forced himself to remember why he had called for the blond knucklehead's presence in the first place. With a disinterested yawn, Naruto stretched his arms as he looked around at the vacant springs, feeling a warm breeze of air spurting from them every now and then. Aside from the weak moonlight, their surroundings were swathed in darkness, a factor which seemed to be putting the Uzumaki to sleep on the spot.
"You guys have a pretty nice get-up here," yawned Naruto, nodding at the numerous springs. "I wish our place could have nice stuff like this."
"Well, seeing as you're moving in soon, there shouldn't be a problem."
"What makes you think that? Once this week is over and done with, we're returning to our land, probably to copy what you guys have done and find peace with our neighbours. I don't know what the old man has in mind."
Although Sasuke wanted to dive straight into his reasons for calling upon Naruto, he decided to let it rest for a while.
"Well, alright. Shall we walk?"
"Whatever you want, princess."
Incensed at his term of endearment, Sasuke pushed the thought out of his mind as he tried to think of a way to present the issue to Naruto.
"[Name] was forced to marry Madara against her will and that child is most likely a result of non-consensual intercourse." Wow, what a way to strike up a conversation.
"Did [Name] talk about me much?"
As he was trying to find a way to word [Name]'s precarious situation, Sasuke was taken aback when Naruto initiated the conversation. Put on the spot, he felt a pang of guilt at remembering that whatever letters the Uzumaki had addressed to [Name] had never reached her.
"Uh... she mentioned you while we were... courting," said the Uchiha cautiously, not wanting to expose the envious way he had dealt with Naruto's covert messages. Unaware of Sasuke's wary tone, Naruto's face lit up at the Uchiha's words.
"Really? What did she say?"
Sasuke was silent for a moment as he pondered his thoughts.
Why am I talking to this idiot again?
"... she was so down about the fact that she had to marry me. The night before our wedding, she told me why she was so sad leading up to it. She told me she was seeing another man at the time, but that was it."
"Ah, I see." Naruto's voice had a twinge of disappointment in it, but Sasuke wasn't done just yet.
Against his better judgement, Sasuke stopped in his tracks and stared at the back of Naruto's head.
"Do you know how many arguments we had because of you?!" snarled the Uchiha, pointing an accusing finger at the Uzumaki as he turned around to face him. "Do you know how long it took her to get over you, and start fresh with me?! Do you?!"
"You... what?"
"When [Name] first came here, she was a depressed mess! And it always came back to her missing you! Do you know how frustrating that was for me to deal with?!"
"She did?"
"Yes, you moron. She did. Why did you continue to write to her even after she'd told you not to?"
