She would only be eight next month yet she could blew everyone's mind and convinced them she was a decade old already. Rapid growth, both physical and mental. Wise mind she got there.
Elle sat down on her chair, her usual spot in the table at the dining room. She swayed her long legs, avoiding making contact with the carpeted ground. Pouting her lips while staring absent mindedly at the spoon she had been playing between ber slender fingers
"Her power is waning. She's fading."
"When a new supreme has risen the old one has to fall."
These were just some of the things she had heard, not that she was eavesdropping but it was witchery. It could either be considered as a gift or a burden. The girl could get into people's head, although it could be controlled, learning it wasn't a piece of cake. It could took a lot than expected depending on the process.
It was a pretty sunday morning, birds were chirping, fresh air was finding its way through the open windows. It was a day to enjoy but not when you knew your mother's days were already counted.
Coco sat beside the girl, concentrating on the blueberry cupcake resting on her plate then her eyes were turning all white, lips were parting. Zoe and the other girls were staring at Coco with amusement plastered on their faces.
"There's no way I'm freaking eating this shit. It contains 297. 2 calories, girls. I have no idea how you guys could eat such food like this." Coco blurted out and pushed her plate away from her, taking a slice of celery and a mayo.
"Hey, Elle. You can have my cupcake, I know you love blueberry stuffs." The blonde woman said and transferred the food to the girl's empty plate. Elle just smiled at her, not wanting to show that she was't interested in it, fearing it might disappoint Coco if she refused to have it.
"Hey, babe. You alright?" Queenie concernedly asked.
Elle was the most honest and purest being who ever lived in the coven but just this once she would make an atempt to lie and was hoping she could do it. Cordelia wasn't with them having breakfast so Elle was safe to lie or hide something, the only soul who could see through her and had the power to read her like an open book was her mother. The coast was clear and safe, she breathed in whilst she closed her eyes, trying to vanished the nervousness in her system.
But the moment her eyelids flung open, she saw a woman, it was a reflection on the mirror. The woman was her mother, it was Cordelia Goode. Cordelia was holding up the bottom of her blouse where an open wound was. She was the supreme she was supposed to be glowimg with radiant health but what was happening to her? Her wound's progress of healing was slow and she felt her body weakening the vibration of her power was becoming less felt.
Elle could see through Cordelia's eyes. "I'm fading..." the little girl heard her mother say. "No!" Elle protested. It was loud, it came out as a yell. When her eyes flung open again all the girls were surrounding her, worried sick faces welcomed her. Elle's eyes were tearing, her whole body was shaking.
She stood up as immediate as she could and ran away from them and went up the stairs, skipping some steps on her way. Believing it would be faster and less time wasted. Cordelia's bedroom door opened, she wasn't shocked at all. She heard her girl in her mind and it crushed her heart.
She truly couldn't hide anything from Elle, nothing was safe hidden.
Elle's little figure crashed with Cordelia's who was sitting on her bed with an open arms, inviting the girl for a cuddle which Elle gladly took. The girl's face was buried in the crook of Delia's neck, dainty arms were around her mother's body. It was so tight, as if she hadn't seen her mother for so long and insanely missed her. On the other hand, the supreme responded quickly to her daughter's hug. Delia's lips were kissing the crown of her daughter's head and arms were wrapped tight around the seven year old kid. Her eyes were quite teary and not wanting the little child to see it so she just closed her eyes and hugged her child closer to her.
They could feel each other's heartbeat and it meant safety for them.
"Mommy, why can't we be just normal people? Why do we have to be witches? Why do you have to be the supreme?" The girl asked in between small sobs. Delia's heart ached, those questions cut deep through her. The girl already knew, she was a special kid after all, a daughter of the supreme the one and only, Cordelia Goode.
"When a new supreme has risen, you'd fall and I don't want that, mommy. Don't leave me please. I don't want to live without you." Elle's sobs were becoming louder than before, she couldn't control her breathing anymore. A drop of tear fell on the girl's wild blonde curls, it was Delia's. She couldn't contain the agony anymore, seeing her daughter like that. It was all too much for her.
"Shhh, baby. Mommy's not going to leave." Elle knew better than this. Those words tasted bitter coming out of Delia's lips.
"Grandma Myrtelle, Zoe, Madisson and the other witches are helping me to get well. I just need to rest myself, baby. No one's already next in line, okay?" Delia delivered her sentence with assurance. It was a lie of course, but she had no other option. If lying was the only thing to protect her daughter's feelings she would do it again and again, that was motherhood all about wasn't it?
Delia felt her daughter's hug loosened and she gradually pulled away, similar brown eyes looked back at her.
"Mommy will never leave you, Elle. Never. You understand that little chipmunk?" Delia chuckled at the nickname she just called her daughter, a small smile cracked on Elle's lips.
"I'm not a chipmunk!" Elle protested laughing at her Mom.
"Next month's your birthday! Why don't we start planning." Cordelia tried her best to look intact in front of her child. She had to. The girl admire her for that.
"I'm gonna be eight!" Elle squealled completly forgetting about everything that happened few moments back. It was her birthday they were talking about after all.
"Yeah, you're gonna be eight and soon you'll be a teenager but promise me you won't stop calling me mommy."
"I won't mommy. I promise."
Cordelia hugged her child one last time before venturing out her bedroom. Elle holding her mother's hand while they climbed down the stairs, ready to plan out her birthday celebration for next month.
