Chapter 16.1 - Tragedy Strucks Part 3

As we loaded another round to our chamber, I ordered the two to quickly retreat as soon as the the villagers were able to retreat to the mine shaft. I told them to grab only a single horse with our supplies strapped in. The villagers hasten their pace of retreat, by leaving some of their items behind as instructed by the elders. And the warriors will hold the line until then.

The village mage began another incantatiom to wipe out the large horde of goblins coming at us. The village warriors began also to unsheath their swords. Some are made only of metal the rest are bronze. It is not a fight to dominate but a fight to defend the rest of the retreating villagers. So we formed a half circle wall of defense to block the enraged goblins. Sounds of metal clanking to one another began to one again emerge followed by sound of gunfire. At the current range we can still use our rifles the villagers their lances. The defense was solid. We are positiomed at a elevated level where the mine shaft is and from here we deliver support fire.

A goblin tried to jumped in to our defense but was quickly shot downed by Serefina. Charging goblins will faced either the sharp end of the lances or a metal bullet straight at their face. Some villagers were also able to create makeshift wooden shields. Making the defense much more dense.

The only problem will be when an orc will be able to reach our formation. The sharp lances have difficulties in peircing the thick skin of the ogres and the same result to the bronze swords. Only the handful with the steel swords have the chance to knock them down. The other retired adventurers took on the front including Kyle, displaying his elegant swordmanship once again.

This reminds me that even though I could probably make myself the most powerful sword on this world. I would not be able to fully used it as a weapon not unlike when I am using a gun. Although not original, my copies of the gunbare somewhat accurate as I have been studying them at my leisure time. How the rifling should be, the strength of the springs like on my pistol and SMG, the size of the bolt and the how the firing pin works on the rifle.

And in this kind of situation wherein we are attacked by massive hordes, leaves me wishing that I have the skill to remanufacture an automatic rifle or a machine gun.

But too late for now, currently we are stuck using a bolt action and blowback SMG. My Thompson copy at first isn't really perfect at it will have delayed action and sometimes jammed, my springs isn't perfect yet. But during our battles fortunately it performed really well.

And now I quickly snapped back from my deep thought. The village warriors are being decimated one by one as I watch it unfold at the rear, some are injured and has to be evacuated to the mine shaft fast. Nataly is also still at the rear with some of the female villagers healing the injured. And the last of the other villagers able to escape to the mine shaft we then shouted at them to inform that everyone not fit to fight are able to escape. And with this the farely exhausted and panicked villagers quickly broke the wall of defense. Leaving our rear ,where are the goblins are, undefended. Thus we try to calm down the rushing villagers. But with no effect I quickly grabbed Serefina and gave her the lead of the horse, the rope, and instructed her to retreat with Nataly and the still slightly injured Liana.

I quickly pushed them in the shaft as the onrush of the panicked village warriors head for the mineshaft, I promised them to join them in a bit as I will personally support the last line of defence where the ex-adventurers like Kyle is. They are now in charged of covering the rear as the the warriors supposed to be defending the rear retreated fearing for their lives. No matter how loud the shouting of the ex-adventurers gaving orders to not leave the rear undefended they did not  heed.

Thus eight of us will be defending the rear before everyone managed to escape succesfully.

A guy with a gun along with a mage and an archer, will cover the rear of the five veteran swordsman.
