The caravan arrived just on schedule and we immediately joined them. My party along with a couple of adventurer's party and a squad of mercenaries are guarding the Caravan. They gave us little information on what we are supposed to protect. It might be a cache of silver and gold as the Caravan originated from the mines.
We've been on the road for almost a day now, but all I can see are thick forest and mountains on the horizon.
It's also been a day when Liana cried her heart out. Until then we didn't have a proper talk, she is still mad at me but she still joined the party. She and Nataly are on the helm of our wagon. Ilina and Isabel are fast asleep, while Serefina is doing something. Meanwhile I stare blankly at the mountains as the sun sets, thinking, thinking hard.
Just a few months ago, I was just a regular student failing his class. Now I am an adventurer in some far away land. Even with the mystery enveloping my life till now, I've decided to just go with the flow, and now I am bearing the results of my decisions.
I have made a lot of decisions that have affected a lot of lives. I might be biased with my opinion but I think I have achieved the best outcome yet. But still the weight of the responsibility I bear is heavy, and I've only realized it now. Liana, Serefina, Nataly, Isabel and Ilina's lives are on my shoulders.
And as I contemplate, I received a tap on my back.
"Why are you so serious Karl?", Serefina asked as I jumped a little from the shocked.
"Oh my, it's just you Serefina?", I answered back.
"Harsh, 'just you Serefina', no wonder Liana is angry at you.", she replied.
"Oh you knew, Liana is right to be angry at me.", I answered back.
"Of course, for me there is no secret in this small party of yours.", Serefina the replied smirking.
"Say Serefina, you are the oldest here in our party. What do you think I should do?", I asked.
"First, learn to properly respect a lady.", she replied as she smacks me in the head with her book.
"Ow, but why?"
"Calling me old?, I am only 200 years old. I am very young in elven years mind you!"
"Oh, sorry about that, but seriously Serefina, what do you find in me that you followed me till now and give your all to me?", I asked.
"I hate this kind of stuff, but I will be answering your question, first off you proposed to me, remember. And second with all of your flaws I still believe in you. Hey our time together was fun right?", she answered as she smiles and rubs my back.
"Thank you for letting me know how you feel.", I replied.
"Karl in the end, make decisions yourself and decisions you won't regret. Do you regret what you have now? Do you regret having us as your partners?", Serefina said as she gives her biggest smile yet.
"Wow, Serefina I didn't expect you to give me such wonderful advice, you are really an elf after all!", I told her.
"Karl you are pretty rude to me lately don't you?", Serefina replied.
"Oh I am sorry Serefina, don't worry I will pay back my sins to you." I jokingly answered.
"Say Karl, you can pay back your sins right now. The sun has already set, and the others are busy or asleep, leaving us all alone here at the back. You can let me have some 'fun' with you right?", Serefina replied once again smirking towards me.
"No, no, no, I will only further dig my grave if Liana would discover us given the situation. Besides this is no place for that and the Caravan might stop for a rest in a few minutes.", I replied.
"Sheesh, you are not fun, I am only teasing you, later I will be back for you.", Serefina told me as she makes her way to the front.
A few moments passed by, and as the caravan reached a grassy meadow. Everyone decided to take a rest and call it a night. We have our dinner together, with Liana still avoiding me. Everyone is now noticing the quarrel between us.
