She grew up in a small province in Iloilo. They were 3 siblings when their father left them to go with another woman. Their mother died of giving birth on their youngest. She live and grow in her grandparents house. She was 7 years old when she 1st witnessed an unexpected scene. Their house was a kubo (A Philippine native house), it has a room that was always close and it was really stinky. One night, she walked in front of the room and noticed that it was open. The curiosity of a kid ruled over her and forget about the rules of her grandparents. As she walked inside the room, she saw a wire that both enda was hooked to the nails of the opposite walls. Her eyes can’t stop wondering what is that thing over the wire. They were red, long like intestines and very smelly, she also saw fingers on the jars, and many body parts scattered in that place.

After fulfilling her curiosity, she got caught by her grandparents, she was placed inside the sack and hung on the ceiling for an hour. Then after that, she was tied in the chair because she wants to run. Her grandfather took a piece of a body part and she was forced to eat. She don’t want to accept it, she strongly tightened the opening of her lips. Her uncle held her tight and opened her mouth forcibly, trying to make her bite of a body part (liver). She did everything to escape but she was just a kid. An idea came to her mind. What she did was, she bit a little of that liver in order to convince her uncle and grandfather that she ate it in order to let her go. She immediately ran to the farm irrigation to spit out the body part that she hid in her mouth. She purged by putting her finger on her inner tongue just to induced vomiting. Then she gargled water many times as she cried while trying to relieve her throat from the blood stink.

She immediately went back to their house and packed her things. She has escaped many times, she slept on the street, she even became a housemaid. She ran away as far as she can, not even minding her young age of what will happen to her and to her future. Even how far she ran, she can hear her grandfather’s voice through the wind, calling her to go home. It made her more scared and anxious while on the street. She don’t know where to go, she was afraid to go to her relatives because she knew that they are also like her grandfather.

One day she decided to go home for a reason. While she was walking in to their small barangay, in the rice field, she saw a cow with a headband and we laughed as she described a carabao that was wearing a converse shoes (Haha).

Okay, let’s take it seriously, those creatures that she saw are “Engkantos” or the evil spirit of nature, that disguises into animals that we commonly see in the fields to deceive people and make them their victim.

Upon seeing those creatures, she shouted at them. “Hey! Don’t you ever scare me! I am the granddaughter of your boss! We are all the same!” As the creatures heard the name of her grandfather, they suddenly asked for forgiveness because they are scared on her grandfather.

SIS-J said that Aswangs/Engkantos are also living like normal human beings. They also have communities and officials. Her grandfather was a higher creature than Engkantos. She described her lolo as a General in their world.

While she was on their home, her grandfather told her. “Whatever you’ll do, you cannot escape us. You cannot escape your destiny. We swear to our God that we will give you as an offering gift to him when you turn 16.” She replied “What if I don’t want to?” Her grandfather said “You will marry him or you will die?!”

After that conversation, she became really scared. She was looking for her father to comfort her but she have nothing. One night, while watching a television, she saw her aunt going to their backyard. She quietly followed and observe what is happening. She saw how her aunt put an oil to her body then after few minutes, wide wings appeared and she saw her aunt flying away leaving her half body on the land. She saw the half body of her aunt walking to the dark place covered with large vines. SIS-J was 8 years old that time who loves to mimic the movies that she saw. She remembered the Filipino movie "Shake, Rattle and Roll.” It has a scene that the kid is putting a garlic and salt in the half body of the manananggal and it melted like ice. So, what do you expect, SIS-J as an 8 year old kid that time took a salt and garlic then put to her aunt's half body. It bubbled as if it was boiling. After several hours, she heard the wind blew like a big bird is flying. She immediately hid inside their house. She peeped at the small holes to see her aunt and her body. Her aunt cannot get back to her body anymore, it cannot be attached again.
