Brian and I were sat in the living room of my grandparent's home about to tell them the news of our engagement  "so nana, grandad, me and Bri have some news" I spoke up so they could both hear me clearly

"well go on then, dear" My nan, the sweetest person I know, encouraged me

"we're engaged" I cheered, holding my hand out in the classic position to show of the diamond pear-shaped ring on my finger

"darlings that's amazing, congratulations" my grandad spoke up reminding me of Freddie when we told him "beautiful ring, Bri" he added, shaking Brian's hand

"Oh now I have to tell you the story of when I and your grandfather got engaged" the elegant grey-haired woman voiced, sounding excited "back in our day they would have these places that you would wait for your husband to return from the war in and normally it was very upbeat and had lots of dancing and live music. so when Frank came back he proposed as the first thing he did and I'll never forget that 'it's a long way to Tipperary' was playing in the background" my nan explained with a sparkle in her glistening eyes

"that's a beautiful story" Brian complimented "do you have the record?" He asked afterwards, confusing me a bit

"Frank check the vinyl's, darling," she asked my grandad, that's the one thing I loved about them, no matter how many years passed, nothing ever changed. I watched nervously, for some reason as my grandad pulled out a vinyl record with a colourful front to it and began to place it onto the player.

soon enough, the delightful, old fashioned sound of their engagement song began to play, crackling at first then playing out smoothly. Brian stood up in front of me and held out his hand with a big grin on his face, I shook my head with laughter and grasped his hand. even though it wasn't the best song to dance to, we still found a way too, with our awful dancing skills combined. Brian and I were laughing the whole way through

"this is lovely" My grandad beamed from ear to ear, seeing the parallels between him and his wife and Brian and his soon to be wife.

'it's a long way to Tipperary, to the sweetest girl I know'
