Arthur and the others rode back to camp to formulate a plan and to gather more people, seeing as they'd need the muscle. Among that group was Sadie, Micah and Thomas. Arthur hated to admit it, but they were what they needed to get Lorna and Pearson back.

As Arthur grabbed his volcanic pistol out from under the cot, Abigail walked into his tent. He turned around and nodded at the younger woman, not really wanting to converse at the moment.

"Here. It's from Jack." She offered a smile accompanied with a shrug."Its a clover. He said he was worried about his Aunt Lorna and thought you'd need it."

Arthur placed the tiny plant in his vest pocket and patted it."Tell him I said thank you. Ima need all the luck I can get."

"I'll go if you need extra arms-"

"Nah, stay here with the boy. May have to pack up an' leave." He shook his head."You know how it goes."

"I do. I'm startin' to get tired, Arthur. I know you got to be."

He nodded, not agreeing but not disagreeing either. He was undecided at the moment. He grabbed his carbine repeater off the bed and shrugged it over his shoulder.

"You be good now."

"Wish you'd take more people with you."

"We got all the muscle we need. Camp needs muscle too incase they come after us. And they will."

Abigail nodded and exited the tent."Keep an eye on John...for the boy. He loves him."

Arthur nodded."Been watchin' him for twenty Goddamn years, ain't gonna stop now."

He walked out of the tent and met up with Sadie. He was actually happy that she was going along, Lorna would need a someone to go to once the fighting started and they were apparently close, which would make it less awkward for her.

Arthur lit a cigarette for the third time that day, wishing like hell it'd calm his nerves. Unfortunately it seemed to do the opposite. He reached in his pocket and pulled out some mints for Walker, the horse purred his appreciation as he gobbled them up. Arthur smiled and patted his neck.

"I'm glad you're comin' with." Arthur announced, mounting Walker."She's gonna need somebody to get her out an' I don't trust nobody else."

She dipped her head."She know how to fight?"

"No. She knows how to shoot, but...she ain't never had to shoot before."

"She might have to." Sadie announced."But she's tough, she can handle."

"I don't doubt it." Arthur muttered.

Shortly thereafter, Dutch and the others mounted up. He lead the way, tipping his hat to Lenny and Charles, who stood watch. Arthur wished he could've traded in Micah for Charles, but, with the way things were, it'd be best if he stayed behind. The small group kicked up speed just outside of camp.

Their destination - Carmody Dell.

...

Arthur didn't want Lorna to have to learn to fight this way, he wanted to show her proper techniques and how to hit a moving target, not simply throw her to the wolves and pray she came back leading the pack. But he and John had to learn this way, so he didn't imagine this life being any easier on her.

His mind drifted to the baby that grew inside of her. His child. His son or daughter. They were relying on him to keep them safe and he couldn't even do that right. The same thing was happening again and it scared him even more this time around.
