Well as predicted Pearson was thrilled with the meat they brought back. They had enough to last them a month if they were careful. The old man was already planning ahead.
Arthur and Charles planned to ride together to the trapper, saying they could use the trip to clear their head and they needed it.
Lorna was still feeling sick, enough for the others in camp to take notice and begin to worry. Maybe she'd caught something from someone in town, or maybe she just ate something she shouldnt have. And with Pearson's cooking, it wasn't that far off.
She tried moving around, doing chores, hoping the queasiness would subside. It would, but it always came back.
"Hey." Lorna greeted John.
He turned and tipped his hat.
"How are you?"
He snorted."Bout as good as I can be."
Lorna nodded and peered over the cliff, pulling her shawl tighter around her as the early spring air ran a chill through her body.
"I have a question."
He turned, giving her his full attention."Yeah?"
She blushed."I havent been feeling too well lately and I dont want to worry Arthur. Could you possibly ride with me to town so I can see the Doctor?"
"Why me?"
"I dont want anyone else knowing and Arthur doesnt want me going into town alone just yet..."
He nodded and waved his hand."Alright, fine. But, how the hell we gonna do this?"
"Well, Arthur's going to the trapper later on today, I'll just tell the others I'm going for a ride. Make sure you're gone before I leave and just meet me at the end of the trail."
He nodded again."So uh, what's wrong with you anyways?"
Lorna bit her lip."I'm not sure."
He nodded sipping his coffee, turning away from her - making it clear he was done with the conversation.
Lorna heaved a sigh, her legs shaking a bit from the rush of adrenaline. She'd never held a formal conversation with John, just a few greetings here and there. This would surely be awkward, but she had to do what she had to do.
She made her way back to her tent, just as Arthur was pulling on his brown scouting jacket. She smiled and wrapped her arms around him, he craned his neck over his shoulder and smirked.
"What?"
"That's a good look on you, cowboy." She smiled.
He smirked and turned around, wrapping his arms around her. She stood on her tippy toes and pecked his lips.
"I love you." She whispered.
"Love you." He replied.
She reached up and ran her fingers through his oily hair."You need a bath."
He snorted."When I get back I'll stop in town an' get a nice hot-"
"No you wont! I dont want those women bathing you."
He raised his hands."I wasnt gonna get the deluxe."
She smiled."Alright, if you say so."
"I dont want none of that no more."
"Good. Because if anything, I can give you a deluxe bath and...if you're good, it'll be worth your while." She tapped his chin
Arthur's eyes twinkled with lust. She leaned up and nibbled on his bottom lip. Arthur's hands dropped lower until they were gripping her butt.
