"Liu! Can you just tell me what's going on?" I ask him in disbelief. He had taken me outside to get some fresh air but I wasn't in any clear headspace.

"Well a simple way to put it is you met a friend of mine"

"No shit really?" I replied sarcastically "That man with the freaky mask who BROKE into my home is YOUR friend?!" I grew weary not believing a word that came out of his mouth.

"Well...i live with him and some others...I know it's strange but-"

"You consider HIM a friend to you? And you live with him?! And others like him? What kind of freaks do you hang out with?!"

"Please don't say that" he creased his brows a little disheartened.

"Do you even understand what happened to me? How much I feared for my life as well as the safety of my grandparents?! All I thought about was how I was never even going to see them or my brother again!"

"Jack was just trying to help you, I would never have let him harm you" he assured with a calm tone as he understood my frustrations and fears.

"You weren't even there!" I spat. "How do you even know what he did? But my main point is what the hell is up with that girl?! She threatened me and told me to stay away from you, otherwise she'd kill me if I become like you! What's wrong with you exactly? And why am I involved?!"

He was looking at me, not saying a word, it was clear he was troubled as he took off his striped black and white scarf and wrapped it carefully around me.

"I'm sorry I didn't get to you in time...I wanted to keep you away from all of this...Jane doesn't like to hurt innocent people but if she thinks you're with us then you're in danger...I have no right to do this to you...and it'll definitely make things more complicated...but I think this is for the best...so just for the time being...for you and your grandparents safety...come live with me"

"With that creep with you? Or your brother I didn't know about? Liu you still haven't told me what the hell is going on..." I tell him as my frustration started to leave, I was growing wobbly from all the adrenaline I had experienced. "I'm not going anywhere with you until you start talking" I fold my arms.

He hesitated a moment as he inhaled the chill air and calmly exhaled.
"...I share a cabin with other people, like roommates in a sense...the guy who saved you from Mr.Gibbs? I assume Jane must've told you but you're right he is my real brother by blood... and that cabin is run by- I guess he's sort of a boss figure"

"A...boss? Like a landlord or something?" I ask confused

"Yeah" he glanced away from my gaze as he sounded unsure "we can go with that but it's best I don't go into more detail about him though"

I couldn't help but feel worried for him
"...Is he kind to you?"

"No one was at first...but it didn't take long for us to become close"

"Liu this is a lot to take in, how many lies have you been keeping from me?" I ask him feeling betrayed.

"A lot Sally... what happened to you tonight is why I've been keeping things from you, so you don't get involved in these type of problems that could endanger you or your family. I didn't do good enough and although Jane doesnt like to hurt innocent people, she will hurt those who are thought to be 'with' us, I've messed up once letting her get near you and I'm not taking anymore chances with you in her sights" his voice grew more stern, it seemed like he all he wanted to do was protect.

———

I decided not to fight Liu on this decision as he assured me my grandparents will be safer if I wasn't here. I'll do anything to keep them safe.

Once I finished packing the basic necessities for my stay at Liu's house he immediately pulls me by my hand, leading us outside.
"Hold on! I haven't even told my grandparents yet!" I try to resist his pulling.

"I'll sort it out Sally. Jane is targeting you not them so right now i just need to get you there" He didn't bother looking

Many thoughts and feelings were rushing through me keeping my mind busy and overthinking. However, I snapped out of it when he stated we were almost there, it was strange how we entered the woodland area that surrounded our town, the citizens are warned to keep out due to missing cases, these woods can go on for days for someone who doesn't know where they're going.

"You live in these woods?" I ask him nervously... how does he even remember where to go?

"Don't worry it's safe here" he assured "it may look a little scruffy on the outside but Its a decent place and no one rarely finds it considering how deep in the woods we are. It's pretty homey if I do say so myself...the people won't be for a while though..." he muttered to himself.

"Are you sure i should stay here? What about my grandparents? And Nathan?"

"I told you I'll sort it, don't worry about your grandparents or your brother, they will be okay with it, whether you stay here for the weekend or for a whole year"

"How long do you think will i be staying here?!" I ask him shocked.

"I really don't know...it depends when the problem gets solved, but hopefully not any longer than you have to...for your own sake" he gave my hand an assuring squeeze "I'll do my best to protect you"

Before I knew it we were in front of his cabin, there were 3-4 wooden steps leading up to the front door.
"Come on" he spoke gently as he lead me inside

"Wow" I couldn't help but admire the place, the front door lead into in the living room and I took in my surroundings, the house was surprisingly cozy, the walls and floor were smooth dark wood but there were carpets, comfortable sofas, an open doorway connecting the living room and the kitchen, the lamps gave off the right shade of light, it was perfect.

"Here, sit" he gestured to the 'U' couch "rest here for a moment I'll get you a drink"

"Thank you" I mumble sitting down, Liu gave me a small smile before he went into the kitchen, I look behind my shoulder to see him getting a glass from a cupboard.

I took the opportunity to lie down on the sofa to let everything come back to me, I didn't realise how tired and drained I was until I felt my body relax and sink into the cushions. I couldn't help but let my heavy eyes close as my mind went more blank and I began to drift off.

"Sally..."

I felt a small tap and I instantly jolt up, all of my tiredness immediately threw itself away "Hey, you're okay- it's okay" liu spoke softly "its just me, come on I'll take you to bed" he offered "I'll leave the rest of the explanations for tomorrow"

He took me upstairs through the singular corridor and I saw multiple different rooms.

"Come inside" he tells me as we approached his door, he went in and set my bag at the bottom of his bed and gestured for me to sit down.
His room was spacious, a double bed, tv, a desk and his own connected bathroom.
"Get changed into something comfortable and rest, you're safe here okay? I'm here with you"

"But my grandparents" I remind him

"I promise you I'll sort it, Jane wont be back and they're safe, please rest for me" he assured "I'll be back soon, I'm just going to greet the others"

"The others?" I ask him

"Yeah." He held up his hand signalling for us both to be silent. My face twisted in confusion for a second before a distant bang was heard from the door downstairs

"What was that?" I ask him growing nervous again

"My 'roommates'...they dont care about the noise they make since were in the middle of nowhere, I'm going to greet them and let them know they can meet you tomorrow, so please sleep and I'll join you soon"

He gave me a reassuring smile and I felt more at ease, but the thought of my grandparents being alone couldn't help but linger through my mind and it left me uneasy.
He left the room allowing me to change but before I did I just sat and thought to myself for a while.
